John B: Ridiculous decision from Blues to destroy everything Eustace was building at St Andrew's - ironically just as the stadium capacity was coming back.

Chris Moonan: Another great player who’s not going to be a good manager. Add Gerrard and Lampard to a list of many.

  5. 'We'll try to do work in January'published at 22:38 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Rooney on investment in January: "That's difficult, with where we're at. The work we can do in January, we'll try to get done, of course.

"The main thing for us now is focusing on the game [at Cardiff City] on Wednesday."

  6. 'I get it, we need results'published at 22:36 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

More from Birmingham boss Wayne Rooney, speaking to Sky Sports Football: "We have to keep trying to improve and keep working on the training pitch to try to get better results.

"We're on a bad run - I get it, I understand that. We have to start picking up results, it's as simple as that.

"I know what's at stake and the players know what's at stake."

  7. 'We have to stick together'published at 22:35 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Birmingham manager Wayne Rooney, speaking to Sky Sports Football: "It's disappointing and frustrating but we have to roll our sleeves up and dig in.

"We know we're going through a difficult period. We have to all dig in and stick together to pick up more points.

"We conceded two sloppy goals. I thought we started quite brightly but for the first goal we allowed too much space in the penalty area. Second goal, we've been working on defending the box and we didn't do it well enough.

"We have to be better with the ball in the opposition's half. After their second goal, we were braver and I've had to ask them why we can't do that consistently."

Phil Maggs: Will Wayne Rooney last the season?

    Matthew Knights: Serves Birmingham right.

Dan: Love Rooney but I’m glad after how Birmingham treated their former manager.

Rich: Embarrassing. Get him gone before he takes us down.

Simon Atkins: I wonder how long the board will take to admit how much they messed up getting Rooney in over Eustace. Hopefully before we end up in League One!

  10. 'Realy infectious character who loves football'published at 22:25 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Coventry boss Mark Robins on match-winner Callum O'Hare after his first goals since an ACL injury:

"He's a brilliant person, he's superb around the place, a really infectious character.

"When he wasn't around, you felt it. When he came back into the squad, even when he wasn't fit I wanted him around because of his character, his nature, his personality.

"He's worked really hard to get back to where he is at the moment and there's still more to come from him.

"He loves football - he plays in the park still with his old man. I'm absolutely delighted for him."

  11. 'Brilliant from start to finish' - Robinspublished at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Coventry boss Mark Robins to Sky Sports:

"I thought we were brilliant from start to finish. The goals that we scored were outstanding.

"We played with intent and found our way down the pitch with some real quality, some really good flowing moves and some really good chances.

"And thankfully we took two. Callum has been fantastic at the heart of it as you would probably expect.

"He has been out for such a long time and worked so hard to get himself back to fitness, so I am absolutely delighted for him, we all are. You can see what he means to the supporters."

  12. How they standpublished at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Coventry jump up to 14th thanks to tonight's derby triumph.

Hard to see them being dragged into trouble.

Blues, however? Well, they slip to 16th and could be much lower come the end of the weekend depending on how other results go.

Still seven points from bother, mind.

  13. 'Not sure my grandad will text me!'published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Coventry match-winner Callum O'Hare, from a Blues-supporting background, on Sky Sports on his first goals in more than 18 months after an ACL injury:

"That's what I've been waiting for - all that long rehab, and I can finally say I'm back now. I'm so happy.

"It's been a tough time and all the emotions came out. I'm buzzing. I felt more like myself tonight.

"I don't think my friends [Blues fans] will speak to me for a week but I've still got the boys here! My grandad texts me after every game but I'm not sure he will text me after this one!"

Sky Blues midfielder Ben Sheaf on O'Hare's impact:

"He showed his quality tonight. We've missed him dearly.

"First half we were really good and created some nice stuff, second half it got a messy at times but after the second goal we were pretty safe."

And we'll get a couple of words from the main man shortly...

  15. 'Birmingham need results'published at 22:08 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

    Ian Clarkson
Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC Radio WM

Birmingham have managed one win under Wayne Rooney against a Sheffield Wednesday team who are bottom of the table.

This team has got to find the results that they were achieving under the previous management.

  16. 'That was more about player desire'published at 22:04 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Ex-Birmingham striker Troy Deeney on Sky Sports:

"Wayne has got a lot of things to answer but that was more about player desire - wanting to get hold of it, and show a little bit.

"It took Romelle Donovan to show a bit of leadership, no fear, 'give me the ball'. But you get that with young kids."

  17. 'O'Hare showed his class'published at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

    Gary Rowett
Former Birmingham boss on Sky Sports

You can't help but be really pleased for Callum O'Hare.

You see the number of people congratulating him - it's not just for tonight, they are just so pleased he is back.

He's been such a key player for Coventry over the years and he certainly showed his class tonight.

  18. 'Not great by any standards'published at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    FT: Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

    Ian Clarkson
Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC Radio WM

Jordan Jones did well. Romelle Donovan came on for a short cameo and showed he's got potential.

Five points from nine games is not great by anyone's standards. Something's got to change, in terms of the play or the system. The gaffer's also not getting the rub of the green.

Birmingham need to play out from the back and need more devilment up front. I'm at a bit of a loss as to where we go from here.

Terence: Rooney has to go, he is absolutely a management joke. You have got to be bad to make Zola look that good of a manager.

Maybe a touch premature, Terence. Rooney's only had nine games...
