    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Romelle Donovan's youthful enthusiasm goes wrong this time though.

His wayward pass is intercepted by Jamie Allen who goes on a lung-busting run before finding Haji Wright, who lashes high, wide and not so handsome.

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 90+1 mins

    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Stunning fingertip stop from a flying Brad Collins to thwart Birmingham sub Romelle Donovan's rocket.

That was heading for the top corner. Donovan, 17, has been really lively since coming on. Food for thought for his boss Wayne Rooney for the games coming up.

  3. INJURY TIMEpublished at 90 mins

Four minutes to be added on.

  4. 'Robins played full hand'published at 21:49 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

Mark Robins has still not made a single change in this game. I think he played his full hand, particularly with two up front.

  5. Postpublished at 88 mins

    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Birmingham earn a corner as a cross goes behind off Coventry defender Liam Kitching.

The hosts clear it - and do the same from a really inviting follow-up cross from Lee Buchanan, before Siriki Dembele is penalised for handball. Not Blues' night.

Micky: Wherever John Eustace is, hopefully he’ll have a wry smile on his face.

  7. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Arguably Birmingham's best effort of the match as a rasping Oliver Burke strike cannons off the body of Coventry keeper Brad Collins.

Last throw of the dice from Wayne Rooney,

Ivan Sunjic and Romelle Donovan on for Krystian Bielik and Lukas Jutkiewicz.

  9. 'We've got O'Hare, Callum O'Hare'published at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

    Ged Scott

You'd think that second Callum O'Hare strike ought to be enough for Coventry City.

And their fans are in full voice.

Ironic chants of 'Rooney, Rooney' all round the ground. And also one of 'There's only one John Eustace'.

That seemed particularly loud, in praise of the harshly treated former Coventry midfielder.

Hard to tell if the Blues fans joined in.

  10. Postpublished at 81 mins

    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto trying to break out the party tricks now with an ambitious overhead kick that, to put it politely, isn't quite Alejandro Garnacho standard.

Coventry are absolutely in the groove though - and Ellis Simms beats a couple of defenders before putting in a low cross that can't find a team-mate.

  11. Postpublished at 80 mins

    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

"Birmingham get battered everywhere they go," is the audible chant from the Coventry fans followed by the traditional "sacked in the morning".

The visiting support responds with a "Rooooooney!" effort but it's a tad muted.

The Sky Blues leapfrogging their local(ish) rivals as it stands.

  12. 'O'Hare was so patient'published at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    Coventry 2-0 Birmingham

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

That surely seals the Blues' fate for an eighth successive away defeat. You would think they will be in the bottom six or seven by the end of this weekend. Five points from nine games under Wayne Rooney.

Callum O'Hare was so patient. He picked his moment. The home fans are taunting Rooney. It's not complicated, this business - you have to win matches.

That's 20 goals Birmingham have shipped now in 10 away games. You won't win many points doing that. Cardiff away on Wednesday looms.

Coventry's best two players on the night combine.

Milan van Ewijk's low cross finds Callum O'Hare at the far post.

He keeps his cool, takes a touch, then another, feints to shoot but eventually works enough space to lash past John Ruddy and surely seal the points for the Sky Blues.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 75 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Birmingham

Blues skipper Lukas Jutkiewicz the latest to enter the referee's notebook.

Not sure what for, got to be honest. This game has got a bit frantic.

  15. Postpublished at 74 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Birmingham

Wonderful interplay from the Sky Blues in and around the Birmingham box, begun by yet another surge down the right from the excellent Milan van Ewijk.

It eventually breaks for Tatsuhiro Sakamoto to shoot from 15 yards but that man John Ruddy is there again.

Ruddy brilliant he's been. This game would be in the books if not for him.

That's a great save by John Ruddy. That was heading for the top corner and he got a sturdy right hand on it.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 71 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Birmingham

    One for the cameras? Maybe.

But another one for Birmingham stopper John Ruddy to add to a fine collection of saves tonight as he flies to his left to tip Milan van Ewijk's 25-yard free-kick over the bar.

Emanuel Aiwu is perhaps a lucky man.

Blatant shirt pull on Ellis Simms who would have been clear.

The referee adjudges Simms probably wouldn't have got to the ball ahead of onrushing keeper John Ruddy and he's likely right. Yellow probably correct.
