That man Jay Stansfield pulls one across the six-yard box but again no-one is in there to attack it for the Blues.

Stansfield played wide right more commonly for Fulham and Exeter, his preferred position is cutting in or providing, Birmingham need a big man up front to convert...

    Whatever happened to Nikola Zigic?!

  3. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Birmingham 0-3 Stoke

Stoke fans will not see this game as anywhere near over yet, given the run they have been on of late.

The Brummies may do, but football fans - as we know - are generally a pessimistic lot.

Steven Schumacher currently on course to get revenge for the way Birmingham's forward Jay Stansfield mocked his old side Argyle with his undershirt reveal on Saturday.

That finished 3-3 on Saturday, while Stoke drew 0-0 at Millwall.

Joe Gibney: As it stands, Birmingham City going from sixth from top under John Eustace, to sixth from bottom under Wayne Rooney. And everyone in the world could see it coming - apart from the Blues' boardroom.

Lea in Birmingham: The only difference between Rooney and Eustace at Birmingham is that Eustace knew how to get the best out of the players and got results. Rooney hasn’t improved any aspect of this team.

Philip in Malton: Blues have had the majority possession in this game so far so Rooney will be pleased.

Gareth in Somerset: Not a Birmingham fan, but glad to see Rooney failing. They went for a big name, massively backfired on them, he's not a manager and never will be! Hopefully the fans now start to turn against him, with the results.

    Birmingham 0-3 Stoke

Birmingham are getting more and more involved in this game, well they've got to.

If they get the next goal it could be key, Stoke need to concentrate.

    Birmingham 0-3 Stoke

Substitute Tyler Roberts has an early pop at goal but from range and no real threat.

Eight of the Brummies' goals have come from the bench this season, but not many home fans seem to hold much hope.

Jay Stansfield tries to wake up the home faithful again just like his late, legendary father used to.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 57 mins

    Birmingham 0-3 Stoke

I promise I don't have a direct link to Wayne Rooney or Steven Schumacher...but as soon as I post that they both do get busy on the touchline!

    A change apiece.

Lynden Gooch, Stoke's skipper and second goalscorer is replaced by Sead Haksabanovic.

For the Blues it is Roberts for Roberts, Tyler on up front alongside Jay Stansfield in place of Marc Roberts.

    Birmingham 0-3 Stoke

Surely Birmingham boss Wayne Rooney has to turn to the bench, and sharpish?

No action on the touchline with much intent yet...

Good goal by Andre Vidigal for Stoke.

Dion Sanderson could have done better there to show him wide, but it's good play from Vidigal on the counter.

Blues fans are leaving the ground now - it could be game over at 3-0.

Straight down the other end after a rare Jay Stansfield strike is blocked, Wouter Burger releases Andre Vidigal who chops back and dinks a third into the corner for Stoke!

Home fans departing already, but Birmingham had looked much brighter this half, most of the action was in Stoke's half - the Blues have even had more possession than Stoke but have been poor with crosses and final balls, Stoke more clinical, 0-3.

Juninho Bacuna is OK to continue but does not take this set piece, again it comes to nothing, but....

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 51 mins

    Birmingham 0-2 Stoke

    Very cynical.

Junior Tchamadeu scythes down Juninho Bacuna who himself is on a yellow.

Watch closely if any retribution is sought, that was nasty from the Stoke man.

    Birmingham 0-2 Stoke

    Kerys Harrop

    How has he missed that?

I thought that was in. He rose really well, got a good head on the ball, and somehow it hasn't gone in. The keeper was in no-man's land, he would have got nowhere near it.

That would have been the perfect start to the second-half for Birmingham.

  14. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Birmingham 0-2 Stoke

Marc Roberts' header goes just wide of Jack Bonham's goal from the first Blues corner of this half - which is recycled and delivered again from the right.

Serious leap and passion to get to that first from the big Birmingham centre-half.

  15. Postpublished at 47 mins

No substitutions at half-time, so three players remain on a yellow-card...

Two for Birmingham, one for Stoke.

Simon, in Newark: A few weeks ago Rooney said his players were not fit enough to play how he wanted them to. Are they fit yet, or is Rooney just a terrible manager?

Anon: Rooney can’t be blamed for players making individual errors but he can be blamed for picking Longelo and Aiwu as full-backs.

Anon: Can anyone please tell me what role Ashley Cole and John O'Shea fulfil at Birmingham? This team couldn't defend The Alamo from a school choir!

I sense that Bluenoses are a little restless at the moment.

  18. 'Well-played half by Stoke'published at 18:07 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    HT: Birmingham 0-2 Stoke

    Angela Smith
    BBC Radio Stoke

Birmingham have not impressed me so far, but this is Stoke we are talking about, so they could concede three goals.

I'm interested to see what Wayne Rooney will say to them at half-time.

A well-played half by Stoke, long may it continue.

Lynden Gooch celebrates scoring at BirminghamImage source, Rex Features

Birmingham started the brighter of these two lower-mid-table sides, but since Jordan Thompson struck well from the edge of the box in the 12th minute Stoke grew and grew in confidence.

Skipper Lynden Gooch slotted through John Ruddy's legs just after the half-hour mark and Stoke deservedly lead at the interval 2-0.

Birmingham have been wasteful with lots of possession and half chances.

  20. Postpublished at 45+3 mins

Last chance of this 45 for Birmingham and another Juninho Bacuna free-kick does nothing, Jack Bonham does come out and command his area this time, collecting easily.
