  1. Everton v Man Utdpublished at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

    Chris Sutton's predictions

    Chris Sutton banner

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Everton are in a relegation battle now, but I still think they will be good enough to stay up.

There is a lot of talk about how their points deduction will galvanise the whole club but I think there is a chance the occasion could suit Manchester United because there is going to be a powder keg atmosphere at Goodison Park on Sunday.

There is the risk that Everton's players could get over-excited, and they need to keep 11 players on the field.

I am sure that will be the message from their manager Sean Dyche too and, if they manage that, Everton have a very good chance of winning this game. Their recent form has been very good.

Results-wise, Manchester United have been doing better than anyone, with four wins in their past five league games, but if you have seen them play this season you will know they have mostly been awful.

I have got a sneaky feeling they will benefit from all the fervour around Everton at the moment and somehow find a way of winning this game too, but I believe in fairytales, which is why I am going with an Everton victory.

Goodison will be absolutely bouncing if I am right.

    Barry Can't Swim's prediction: 2-0

I will have a clear idea about how the rest of the season will pan out largely based on what happens in this game. As far as a prediction goes, I am gong to go with a win... we are scoring a few goals at the moment and United don't look too strong. It's the first game since the deduction, we're at home, and we're already in form - if I were a United fan, I would not be wanting to go to Goodison right now, no way!

  2. Too good to go down?published at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

On Jason's point about Portsmouth getting a nine-point deduction.

Middlesbrough were also docked three points for failing to fulfil a fixture against Blackburn during the 1996-97 season.

Neither club was able to avoid relegation following those sanctions.

This is how it now stands for Everton....

Will they stay up? A good year, if there is such a thing, to get a points deduction?

The thing I'm looking forward to is Everton's appeal against the 10-point deduction. We, as Everton supporters, recognise that a punishment is warranted but 10 points is outrageous. If Portsmouth only got 9 deducted for administration, I feel the sanction should be reduced to, at most, 6 points.

    Chris Sutton's predictions

    chris sutton's predictions

    Sutton's prediction: 0-1

There is no question that Luton are in a relegation scrap but I do like what they are trying to do under Rob Edwards.

I still think they will go down but, based on what we've seen from them recently, I've got far more belief in their chances of staying up than I did at the start of the season.

Still, this is the kind of game I think Palace boss Roy Hodgson will relish. He won't be bothered about possession statistics, he just wants the points.

I don't think Palace will concede and, going forward, Eberechi Eze is fully fit again. He could be the player who makes the difference for the Eagles in what should be a close game.

    Barry Can't Swim's prediction: 0-1

I'd love to see Luton stay up, but I'm not convinced. Palace to take this one, in a low-scoring game.

  6. Gossip - Haaland to Real Madrid?published at 08:44 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

  7. Man City v Liverpoolpublished at 08:37 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

    Chris Sutton's predictions

    Chris Sutton

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

I think these teams will finish the season in the top two. Every time they meet, it makes for such an intriguing game.

Liverpool carry such a threat through Mohamed Salah, and Darwin Nunez has been on fire for Uruguay this week - scoring three goals in total against Argentina and Bolivia.

Nunez does miss a few too, we know that, but he will be a handful, and the pace that Liverpool have on the counter-attack means they are very capable of rattling Manchester City the same way Chelsea did before the international break.

City won't change their approach though, because they don't take a backward step against anyone. I'd expect them to dominate possession, and of course they will play on the front foot even though they know Liverpool can hurt them on the break.

Home advantage will definitely help, though. Pep Guardiola's side have won all 23 of their games at Etihad Stadium so far this year and their draw with Everton on 31 December 2022 was the last time they failed to win there, in any competition.

That's the main reason why I am going for them to just about edge this one and find a way to win but, whether Haaland plays or not, it is going to be extremely close.

    Barry Can't Swim's prediction: 1-1

It is really tough to make a call without knowing about Haaland. I might just go with a draw, because City haven't quite clicked yet this season.

Luton have been fined £120,000 by the Football Association for their fans' homophobic chants at Brighton.

The FA issued the Hatters, who accepted a charge of misconduct in relation to crowd control, with a two-year action plan to improve fan behaviour.

Luton, promoted to the top flight for the first time in 31 years in May, said any fans identified over the chants will be banned by the club.

Luton lost the match at Brighton 4-1 on 12 August.

It was their first Premier League match following promotion.

Brazil forward Rodrygo says he was racially abused on social media following a heated argument with Argentina's Lionel Messi.

The pair exchanged words on the pitch as a World Cup qualifier between the sides in Rio de Janeiro was delayed by 30 minutes because of violent clashes between police and visiting fans.

Rodyrgo said he had received messages with emojis of monkeys and bananas.

"My social networks were invaded with insults," Rodrygo wrote on Instagram.

"If we don't do what they want, if we don't behave as they think we should, if we wear something that annoys them, if we don't lower our heads when they attack us, if we occupy spaces they think are theirs alone, the racists will act out their criminal behaviour.

"Racists are always on duty. Bad luck for them. We won't stop."

Amanda Ilestedt headed a 92nd-minute winner as holders Arsenal came from behind to beat Southampton in the Continental Cup at St Mary's.

The centre-half rose highest to convert a corner for her first goal since joining from Paris St-Germain in June.

Southampton had taken a surprise lead in the 55th minute through a low driven shot from midfielder Molly Pike.

Minutes later, Frida Maanum fired into the roof of the net at the near post to equalise.

The victory moves Arsenal level on points with north London neighbours Tottenham at the top of Group D - both have six after two games. They meet in the competition on Wednesday, 13 December.

How about Chelsea boss Emma Hayes to be the first female manager in the Premier League. I bet there are some teams wishing she was with them now. I for one would love to play in her team, such a professional and a true motivator. Good luck in the USA Emma H.

I really hope we win the Champions League this year for Emma. What a parting gift that will be.

For a player who is supposedly not fully fit, Chelsea striker Sam Kerr still managed to be the difference-maker against Paris FC in the Women's Champions League.

The Australia forward scored a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge as the Blues wrapped up a 4-1 win to move within two points of Group D leaders BK Hacken.

Kerr, who injured her calf during the Women's World Cup this summer, said on Wednesday she was "only on the way back up now" as she deals with the "process" of returning to full match fitness.

But there was no sign of rustiness from Kerr on Thursday as she sealed her hat-trick with an audacious lob from outside the box, before heading off to a standing ovation midway through the second half.

"Well, if that's her at 80% - or whatever she is - I'll take that every week," said manager Emma Hayes afterwards.

"That's not bad. I can't wait for the 100% version!"

Sam Kerr scored a brilliant hat-trick to fire Chelsea past Paris FC in the Women's Champions League group stage at Stamford Bridge.

Having drawn their opener with Real Madrid, Chelsea kick-started their European campaign thanks to Kerr's goals - although Emma Hayes' side were not at their best.

Kerr was teed up by Lauren James' superb pass in the first half before poking in Johanna Rytting Kaneryd's cross after the break.

She completed her hat-trick with an audacious looping chip from outside the box in the 55th minute, while substitute Sophie Ingle added a fourth goal in stoppage time.
