Another disappointing evening for Celtic in the Champions League, consigned to last place in Group E with one point from five matches.

There's one more to come at home to Feyenoord on 13 December and that's all about pride and prize money.

Celtic must lift themselves for a visit to St Johnstone on Sunday as they carry on the quest to get back to this competition next time.

"Sadly for us, over the course of all the games, we've been hampered with our squad and availability," continued Brendan Rodgers. "At this level, for us, that's the very minimum.

"But I have to commend the players that have been playing. They have given everything. The game was very competitive right the way through.

"We lose two goals but the effort and commitment was there."

Brendan Rodgers thinks Celtic played "too safe" in the first half. "We kept the ball but we needed to progress the game that bit more," he explained.

"Second half, we were much better, progressing the game through the pitch and managing the game well and then we arrive on the ascendency.

"In the last 20 minutes we looked like the team that could go on and get the result, but we gave away two poor goals.

"The first one, we're in a great position up the pitch and we lose possession and never recover our shape. Then they get a bit of luck with the deflection. That was a tough one to take.

"For the second goal, we obviously need to be stronger and better."

"We want to finish on a high," said Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. We want to win in front of our own supporters. Our support has been incredible, travelling all round Europe. They haven't seen us win and we'd love to give them that victory at home and finish off with a positive result."

Celtic managed two points in the Champions League last season.

They sit on one at the moment, with that final match at home to Feyenoord to come.

The Dutch may well have something to play for in Glasgow but surely Celtic will throw the kitchen sink at them in a bid to end their six-year wait for a group stage victory.

Atletico Madrid have their noses in front away to Feyenoord, thanks to an own goal.

"It's the overall quality," says Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. "We need to have our very best players available.

"What makes the difference is that bit of experience and genuine quality. That's something we can hopefully resolve over the next couple of windows.

"This group has gained more experience and shown they can compete in some games - but we need to add quality. That's the glaring thing that stands out."

This was the 26th game in a row that Celtic have gone without a Champions League clean sheet against sides from Europe's 'big five' leagues, a streak that trails all the way back to a 2-0 win over Villarreal in December 2008.

I thought Lazio were very passive like they were at Celtic Park. The game was there for Celtic but somehow they've managed to lose.

No surprise to see Uefa have given the player of the match award to Ciro Immobile.

The technical observer panel said: "He showed world-class qualities in front of goal. He changed and decided the game with his two goals."

Lazio now sit on top of Group E with 10 points but they're not assured of a place in the last 16 just yet.

They will be if Atletico Madrid win away to Feyenoord. That one kicks off at De Kuip shortly.

If the Dutch take three points then it gets rather twitchy for Lazio, who visit Madrid for their final match.

Celtic have one game remaining in Group E, at home to Feyenoord in a fortnight.

It's the same old story, It's yet another defeat. Their Champions League record is just lamentable.

I thought this was a game they could have won. I gave them a really good chance of drawing. To lose 2-0 is really disappointing.

When I saw it initially, I thought there was very minimal contact.

For me, it wasn't a penalty. I think that's the correct decision.

Oh dear. David Turnbull was standing over the penalty spot for a long time and now he's not getting to it after all.

Presumably the booking is scratched too.
