Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's good play again. A great ball and a great goal from Jones but it is poor goalkeeping from Areola.

You can't get beaten at your near post like that.

It's two-nil and I'm going to say game over.

GOAL - Liverpool 2-0 West Hampublished at 57 mins

    Curtis Jones

    Sneaks in!

It is great play as first Curtis Jones passes to Darwin Nunez before continuing his run into the box. Nunez spots this and plays a great pass to Jones, who thinks about the cross but then manages to squeeze a shot in from a very tight angle.

Liverpool now have the buffer of a two-goal lead.

For as long as it remains 1-0 then West Ham are still in this and Kostas Tsimikas has to make a crucial intervention to divert Jarrod Bowen's ball across the face of goal behind.

Liverpool have shown a lot more hunger than West Ham. If they lose the ball, straight away Nunez is closing down to get it back.

    They've just had more hunger.

Liverpool want that second goal and quickly!

This time it is really good footwork by Darwin Nunez, who turns away from three defenders before seeing his driven effort pushed over.

West Ham are only a sub or two away from getting a game out of this. I'm sure Anfield gave Paqueta a standing ovation before.

    HT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

Probably no surprises but West Ham didn't have a single shot on or off target in those opening 45 minutes.

David Moyes' long wait for a win at Anfield looks set to go on.

  14. 'Elliott is a wonderful talent'published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2023

    HT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

    Charlie Adam
Former Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

He is very difficult to mark because he likes to go both ways. He has strength of character as well. He had that horrendous injury when he was at Blackburn with the broken leg. What he's been through, you know that when things are not going well he is going to dig in deep because he's been through that.

He is enjoying his football and getting opportunities and he has to use these games to show that he is ready to come into the Premier League. I just think he is a wonderful talent. Even though he is young, he has a personality in the Liverpool team, and is trying to create and is not afraid to make a mistake.

  15. 'Liverpool deserve to lead'published at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2023

    HT: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

Liverpool thoroughly deserve it. They have been the best side.

Harvey Elliott and Szoboszlai have been superb.

  16. Excellent Elliottpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2023

    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Anfield

Harvey Elliott has been superb in the first-half.

That cross for Cody Gakpo brought a round of applause from his manager.

West Ham are not getting tight enough to Elliott, who has too much room.

David Moyes needs to change this. The result is only going one way on the evidence of that 45 minutes.

    Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

Good play again. Gomez driving forward.

Gakpo rises, he times it, and the only thing missing is that it doesn't end up in the back of the net. Everything else was perfect.

  19. CLOSE!published at 45 mins

Almost 2-0 on the stroke of half-time as Cody Gakpo rises to meet a cross but places his header just the wrong side of the post.

There's one additional minute at the end of the half.
