Lawman: If Arsenal had a decent striker, they would have won that. Can’t see how Kai Havertz adds anything to his team. He’s too pedestrian in his play. Liverpool left it late, again. Overall a good match to watch, entertaining.

The positional changes made the difference in the second half and Jota added that bit of calmness in the final third.

This is a hell of a win.

Conradk: I'm struggling to think of another game so high in energy and intensity and yet so low in quality. This game will go down as the definition of "smash and grab", Arsenal have only themselves to blame, they should've been two or three up at half-time and had the game put to bed. Just goes to show the difference in mentality, Liverpool have it and Arsenal don't.

Liverpool were missing two of their superstars in the meeting of the Premier League title challengers in this FA Cup tie - but they impressively overcame the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

They were grateful for Arsenal's poor finishing in the first half but Jurgen Klopp's side were always in the game and, even without Salah, they possess menace in their forward line and that was increasingly in evidence as the game went on.

Ibrahima Konate in particular stood out - proving he can produce commanding performances even without Van Dijk alongside him - while young defender Jarell Quansah continues to impress in the absence of Joel Matip.

Darwin Nunez was again inefficient with his efforts at goal but Diogo Jota was again lively as he continues his return from injury.

Overall, finding a way to win without Van Dijk and Salah will send a surge of self-belief through Liverpool and their supporters that Klopp's new-look side can go on to achieve special things this season.

To all the Arsenal fans urging for Arteta to get the sack. Take a deep breath and be proud of your team's performance. Bar the goalscoring aspect, all the ingredients are there to win silverware in the future. Be patient and make the right decision on a striker in the summer and you'll be a step closer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Sport after the game: "Well the performance was there and the amount of chances too.

"We just have to win the game, but we lost it and we are not capitalising. To win games we need to capitalise.

"When you are better than the best team in Europe and you generate that amount of chances...I have not seen a team do it against them like we have done it.

"It is not enough. The reality is, it is not enough.

"Listen [do I say] play worse than Liverpool, be worse and we will win the game. When my team plays with this confidence what can I do? I am still behind them 100%.

"It is what it is and we have to continue to play the same way and be more efficient."

How can you blame Arteta for that result. For large parts they were better. Creating chances happens on the training ground with tactics. Not his fault his charges didn't put them away.

So much is good about this Arsenal team but there is always the danger they will fall short if all their eye-catching passing play is not accompanied by end product.

It is something Mikel Arteta must address as a matter of urgency - something the manager and the club may well agree with given the constant links with Brentford's Ivan Toney. Whether they can do business in the difficult January market remains to be seen.

This is Arsenal's third successive defeat since their creditable draw at Anfield on 23 December - and the feeling of positivity around Arteta's team after that result must be restored swiftly.

The big games keep coming for Liverpool.

Next up is a League Cup semi-final against Fulham at Anfield on Wednesday.

By avoiding an FA Cup replay, they then get a break until 21 January when they go to Bournemouth.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC: "I'm super proud. It's a super difficult draw. Maybe the most difficult we could have got. With all the things we had to consider coming here, Arsenal lined up slightly different, that was smart. We changed a bit at half-time. We were really in the game in the second half. We scored the goals and brought the kids on. We fought for 95 minutes. We have a winter break now."

Half-time changes: "It was obvious there would be changes. Today the boys bought into it and we could make them. Not too many. In the end we came through. I'm really happy and proud we could win this game. Arsenal could have won it without a doubt. We finished it off and it spoke for the character of the boys."

On Alexander-Arnold: "It's an own goal right? Like the free-kick against Fulham. What a game he played by the way in all the positions he played. You see his class on the ball. We could have scored a second slightly earlier with one or two counter attacks where we could have saw the pass earlier. We desperately wanted to avoid a draw. Now I don't have to make any decisions which is good."

On Konate: "The new partner did really well as well. Joe Gomez, come on. It was really tough. So many good things happened today. It's really important that you get these kind of different results. You're still in the game and you can step up in the second half."

Team progress: "For tonight, great. Wednesday is the next game and then a few days off. We have to make steps if you want to be where we are and around that area then we have to make steps all of the time. It wasn't an easy game to enjoy in the first half."

On Van Dijk: "I think that game tonight helped him too."

Fans looking to blame Mikel Arteta. Give your heads a wobble. It's the 11 players not putting in the chances on the pitch that need to look at themselves.

    Koz

Arsenal, even before Arteta, have always been obsessed with playing pretty football. It's hey look at us we are so good to watch. Arteta is the same as Wenger - more concerned with looking good than being effective.
