He became City boss in November after previously managing Lommel, MK Dons and Oxford.

West Ham first-team coach Billy McKinlay said: "He was here the first time we [McKinlay and David Moyes] were here and did a good job with the under-23s.

"He's moved on and had a couple of managerial jobs in which he's done well. He's not long in at Bristol City, he's finding his way and in the last few games they've hit a bit of form.

"He'll obviously be looking forward to coming back here after spending a fair bit of time here as a coach. It'll be a big day for him."

Darren Ferguson looks onImage source, Getty Images

Peterborough's Darren Ferguson is managing the Posh for the fourth stint in his career.

Ferguson speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live said, "It is unusual, the fourth time I have come back. I have left and been sacked, it has gone on for 18 years now, but the main reason I do it is we have great success over periods of time."

Ferguson was reappointed after Grant McCann was sacked in January 2023.

"It has changed a lot, I was very young, the chairman [Darragh MacAnthony] was only 32 [when he first took charge] and we have gone through a lot," added Ferguson.

"It's unusual for a chairman to be in a club for that long. For me he is a fantastic chairman how he has looked after the club.

"We have a fantastic relationship and long may it continue."

This is non-league Aldershot's first time in the FA Cup third round since 2013.

They have already beaten two Football League sides this year - including their amazing 7-4 win over Swindon in the first round - a game they led 7-0 at one stage.

The Shots beat Stockport in a replay in round two.

“I’m really proud of taking this club to West Brom, it’s a redemption day for our football club because there’s been a lot of low stuff recently and a lot of really low stuff a little further away," says boss Tommy Widdrington.

“I’m always positive, I believe in the way we play I believe in the group, but what I’ve got to be mindful of and where we’ve got to temper out enthusiasm to win the game with not getting walloped because there is a huge gulp between the two football teams and football clubs."

  7. 'De Bruyne has got everything'published at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January

    Michael Brown
Former Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It would have been fantastic to see Kevin De Bruyne start. I was here last week when he just warmed up, as he ran down the touchline the stadium went up and it was a great sight to see.

De Bruyne is someone who has got everything, Erling Haaland will be missing him!

  8. De Bruyne on the benchpublished at 13:02 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January

Man City v Huddersfield (14:00 GMT)

Team news is starting to drop. We'll bring you the details shortly.

  9. The cross-border rivalrypublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January

    Shrewsbury v Wrexham (14:00 GMT)

Shrewsbury and Wrexham is an old rivalry, even though there is a border in between the teams.

English side Shrewsbury and Welsh club Wrexham are separated by about 30 miles.

This will be the first meeting between the sides in almost 16 years, since Town's 3-0 win in League Two in 2008.

"It's going to be a great cup tie, there's a lot of elements that add excitement to the day," said Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson.

"The importance of this game for the supporters of both clubs is out there and the lads will have a clear understanding of that before the game kicks off."

Shrews defender Tom Flanagan said: "Whether it is a local derby or not, they are a League Two team.

"Who owns them, what they wear, who they are, has no bearing on the game whatsoever."

Three Manchester City players scored hat-tricks when they beat Huddersfield 10-1 back in 1987

Back in May 2018 these two sides faced each other at the Etihad in a Premier League clash, with Huddersfield claiming a hugely credible 0-0 draw on their way to retaining their top-flight status for another season.

Ask any Terriers fan if a repeat is likely and most will say no, with many fearing a similar outcome to a clash back in 1987 more likely.

On that occasion Manchester City thrashed Huddersfield 10-1 and, given the talent within this City team, it is hard to imagine them not rattling in a fair few goals once again.

The bookies clearly give the visitors little chance, with some offering odds of 60-1 for a Huddersfield win, but then this is the FA Cup, where shocks can and do happen...

The Football News Show: Arsenal and Liverpool must beware rotation, says Michael Brown

Arsenal and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League at Anfield in December and meet again in the FA Cup third round today.

Given both sides are still chasing trophies on multiple fronts this season, would managers Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp be wise to rest and rotate for Sunday's game at Emirates Stadium?

Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown joins The Football News Show to warn against ringing the changes.

He also explains why Gunners boss Arteta may be more inclined to name a first-choice line-up.
