It has been a game between two teams that are pretty evenly matched, but ultimately it came down to a team with a little more experience.

And also it came down to them being able to call upon another striker to score even with their man goalscorer being out today.

Their captain also was not involved today.

That is another game we have lost where you think we could have got something out of this game.

A wonderful win, a giant three points, their first win of 2024 is monumental and ends their little run without a victory.

    A really close game.

Sunderland have done a good job to come down here and make it so close.

We have seen three fabulous goals, an excellent match between two teams hell-bent on passing the ball for really good entertainment.

    Ipswich show their mettle!

The Blues had dropped out of the top two for the first time since the start of September after Southamptons win earlier today.

They were winless in five games and they fell behind in this one to Jack Clarke's fine goal.

But they did NOT go under.

Kayden Jackson levelled the scores before the break and Conor Chaplin won it with a great header.

Town back up second, three points ahead of the Saints.

West Bromwich Albion eased to a comfortable 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

Baggies manager Carlos Corberan felt the victory was the perfect way to bounce back from losing 1-0 to Swansea in his side's previous league game.

He BBC Radio WM: "The best way to recover from a defeat is to show this mentality from the first minute of the game.

"[Blackburn] are a team that like to play from the back every single ball and it means they have skilful players, but you can use this identity that they have to be aggressive and press."

Brandon Thomas-Asante was singled out for praise by Corberan after scoring two goals.

"For our strikers it's always important to have the feeling of the goal," the manager said, "He has been doing a very good job in terms of pressing and linking up the game. Today he made extraordinary work."

The ball pops up for Conor Chaplin and his effort deflects wide.

Preston North End enjoyed just their second win in seven games in all competitions, with a 2-0 victory at home to Bristol City in the Championship.

The home side's persistence paid off as Will Keane - one of three half-time substitutes brought on by boss Ryan Lowe - scored two goals in the second half.

"We went into the staff room at half-time and I said I needed to make bold decisions," Lowe told BBC Radio Lancashire. "It's a tough decision to take people off at half-time. I felt we needed more power at the top end of the pitch.

"I felt whoever scored first would go on and win the game and I wanted it to be us, so we changed shape and went on the front foot," he added.

The result means that Preston are two points off the play-off places and Lowe was pleased with the backing of the fans at Deepdale this afternoon. "The atmosphere was bubbling more," he added.

"The intensity was more, we were more on the front foot and putting balls in behind, and as you have seen, we went and scored two good goals."

Reminder that Sunderland had the lead in this one.

They'd won the previous 12 times they'd gone in front in the league this season.

It's looking like it's going to be unlucky 13 for the Black Cats, as Adil Aouchiche fails to connect with a low cross.

What an eventful cameo he's had...
