    FROM NOWHERE!

A long ball over the top sees Billy Sharp challenge for a bouncing ball with Sunderland keeper Antony Paterson and the away team have their first corner.

The initial delivery isn't up to much but the Tigers recycle it and Liverpool loanee Tyler Morton clips it in for fellow Reds loanee Fabio Carvalho.

His strike takes a massive deflection and flies in!

Hull back into the top six as it stands.

    It's all Sunderland now.

Pierre Ekwah smashing a shot about 20 yards over the bar does relieve the pressure on the away side a little bit though.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 66 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

The home side are coming down the hill now.

Another Jack Clarke run down the left ends with another corner for the Black Cats.

Alex Pritchard's delivery is on the money but Dan Ballard can't make a strong connection six yards out.

Billy Sharp is on up top for Ozan Tufan for the away side.

These last couple of minutes Sunderland have been playing with a purpose.

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

    Here we go.

Jack Clarke, who else, causes problems in the Tigers defence and the ball comes loose to Trai Hume 25 yards out.

He makes decent connection with his shot but Ryan Allsop turns it behind for a corner.

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

Jack Clarke wins a free-kick in a dangerous area for the home side and Ozan Tufan does well to turn Alex Pritchard's fierce delivery around for a corner.

Ryan Allsop punches it clear in the Tigers goal.

The hosts looking a bit livelier now though.

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull

    Kieron Brady
Former Sunderland winger on BBC Radio Newcastle

The problem there was that Jack Clarke was momentarily indecisive on whether to play it across the box as a pass or a cross or if he should shoot.

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

I asked you just before the second half kicked off (21:01 GMT entry) if you thought there'd be a goal in this half.

It's pretty even between those who do and those who don't.

If we are to have one for the home side it feels very likely 13-goal Jack Clarke will be involved.

The winger drives forward but, as has so often been the case in this game, the final ball doesn't find a team-mate.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 48 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

Worth mentioning that these two met on Boxing Day and the game remained goalless until the 82 minute when Jack Clarke won it for Sunderland.

It's feeling like one goal will be enough to win this one as well.

Pierre Ekwah loses it in midfield and catches Fabio Carvalho.

That's Sunderland's first booking of the evening. Hull had FIVE in the first half.

Just the two shots on target in the opening 45 minutes.

Do you think we'll get a goal in the second half?

Thumbs up if you think yes and down if you're confident these two play-off chasers are going to continue to cancel one another out.

It's five goals in six and a half games as Black Cats boss for Michael Beale now.

  14. 'Sunderland have to up the tempo'published at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2024

    HT: Sunderland 0-0 Hull

    Kieron Brady
Former Sunderland winger on BBC Radio Newcastle

That minute or so before half-time characterised Sunderland. They had all the ball and all the possession, but Hull were comfortable.

Hull were very disciplined. Sunderland are going to have to up the tempo, then they can intensify it.

Do Sunderland deserve to be in front? I wouldn't say so.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2024

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

I think I've been about as active as the two goalkeepers in this game and I've been sat down for the whole 45 minutes.

To say chances have been at a premium would be kind.

Alex Pritchard hit a tame effort at Ryan Allsop from 18 yards and Lewie Coyle rolled one into Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson's arms at the other end.

Coyle is one of five Tigers players to have been booked in that opening 45 but... Well, that's about it really.

Fingers crossed for a better second half.

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

Just the one minute of time added on.

The home side fashion a bit of an opening but Alex Pritchard can't get the right connection to get a shot on target from an awkward angle.

  17. 'Beale will be aware of yellows'published at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2024

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull

    Kieron Brady
Former Sunderland winger on BBC Radio Newcastle

That's half the outfield for the away side with yellow cards now.

It will be interesting to see what Michael Beale says to the Sunderland players at half-time, he will be aware of [the yellow cards].

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 43 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

A FIFTH Hull outfield player goes into the book.

Dan Neil gets the ball on the turn just inside the Tigers half and Regan Slater trips him up.

  19. 'Shocking free-kick'published at 20:43 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2024

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull

    Peter Swan
Former Hull City player on BBC Radio Humberside

Shocking free-kick, they did the hard bit and then it was a tame little cross.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 40 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Hull City

Tyler Morton is the fourth Hull player booked.

Tigers keeper Ryan Allsop plays a poor ball forward that Alex Pritchard seizes on on the halfway line.

The diminutive midfielder drives forward and the Liverpool loanee hacks him down 30 yards out.

    The free-kick comes to nothing.
