Meanwhile in France, Paris St-Germain were denied a ninth successive Ligue 1 victory thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser by Lille's Jonathan David.

Kylian Mbappe had given PSG the lead from the penalty spot after 66 minutes.

Luis Enrique's side are now five points clear of Nice at the top of the table.

Villarreal's disappointing season continues though. They have now lost three of their last six league games to slump to 14th in the table, just three points outside the relegation zone.

RE Jordan @20:37. It's absolutely nonsense to suggest Harry Kane is having a purple patch. He's consistently contributed with goals and assists for club and country over the last eight years. Probably why he's the record goalscorer for both Tottenham and England.

That goal really came out of nowhere as Villarreal had not even had a shot on target until then.

Real Madrid suddenly need to regroup a bit.
