Dave: As a Baggies fan I am so proud of this team at the moment. All the trouble off the pitch, the long injury list and the prospect of losing three or four players to the African Cup of Nations. Corberan is my manager of the (half) season.

Lee Abrahams: Big three points for Sheffield Wednesday but why do referees never get any blowback for diabolically bad decisions - that red card was a joke.

Anon: Watched two games today - definite goal for Plymouth, not given. Definite pen for Leeds not given. Both would've been first goals and game changed! Come on officials.

There is about seven minutes of normal time remaining in the delayed game at Portman Road.

Ipswich know they need to win to stay within six points of Championship leaders Leicester City.

QPR goalkeeper Asmir Begovic knows a point for strugglers QPR at high-flying Ipswich would be a big result, so he does some dawdling. And for his efforts, he is booked for time wasting.

No Sam Morsy like there was at Leicester, somebody else is going to have to provide the business for Ipswich.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2023

    West Brom 1-0 Leeds

Leeds were so clinical in their 4-0 demolition of Ipswich on 23 December which was apparently only six days ago.

But they've just not got their attacking game going tonight, just as they didn't at Preston on Boxing Day.

The home side go to their bench once more and former Leeds man Alex Mowat is off for Enland international Nathaniel Chalobah.

The biggest compliment we can pay to Darren Moore and his side is that this result seems something of an injustice.

There is not one iota of shame or self pity at this 10th defeat of the season.

The Boro fans seemed relieved when it looked as if they had blown it, they came back from the resulting set-piece.

Jacob Chapman should never forget this night.

Town were anything but defensive, they were watchable and in the contest all the way through.

On this evidence the new year should bring more hope.

    Just some housekeeping.

This game started at 20:15 GMT so we're now into the final 20 minutes.

Chances have been few and far between in this second half as the fifth-placed home side look to hold out against the fourth-placed visitors.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:47 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2023

    Preston 0-1 Sheff Wed

A big win for the away side, who go two points clear of bottom side Rotherham after surviving the final few minutes plus seven minutes of time added on with 10 men.

Marvin Johnson's goal is the difference but this might have been a costly win for the Owls.

They had to make two changes in the first half because of injuries and ended the game with 10 men after George Byers was sent off for violent conduct late on.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2023

Another sub for the home side as skipper Jed Wallace is unable to carry on after picking up a knock.

Tom Bradshaw's goal after Brooke Norton-Cuffy's cross gave the Lions the lead in the 18th minute.

And they were the likelier to score the game's second goal.

Back-to-back wins for Millwall, now unbeaten in four and pulling away from the bottom three.

A second consecutive 1-0 away defeat for Norwich.

Leicester City make it a seventh win in a nine-game unbeaten run to potentially open a eight-point lead at the top of the Championship table.

This may still change, of course, with second-placed Ipswich still playing against QPR.

Still, the Foxes have finished 2023 on a heck of a high with James Justin scoring a stunning second to complete the win at Cardiff.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2023

    Hull 3-2 Blackburn

A superb game to end 2023 on Humberside.

Hull had complete control at 2-0 through Liam Delap and Aaron Connolly.

But Blackburn rallied towards the end of the first half and turned round level after goals from Sammie Szmodics and Harry Pickering.

Alfie Jones restored Hull's lead in the second half and they closed out victory to bounce back from consecutive defeats.

Jack Clarke's heavily deflected leveller denies lowly Rotherham successive wins.

Leam Richardson's side took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half through a great volley from Sam Clucas but they need wins not draws.

That late Liam Cullen free-kick does indeed mean that Swansea will travel home with a point.

They led in just the seventh minute through Liam Walsh but Haji Wright quickly equalised.

Wright's header, turned in on the line by Ellis Simms, put Coventry in front in the second half.

But Cullen has denied the Sky Blues at the death.

Watford were a man down for pretty much the entire second half, but they hold on for a draw against Stoke City.

While the Potters failed to find a winner, it means Stoke finish 2023 unbeaten in three games under new boss Steven Schumacher.

A second half almost entirely devoid of incident comes to an end.

And it's a pretty dispriting stalemate that closes the year for Wayne Rooney and Birmingham.

Bristol City with two chances in the first half through Anis Mehmeti but that was that for either side.

Only seven shots in the whole game and just one of them on target.

And Liam Cullen threads his shot through a crowd and into the bottom corner.
