That's all from me on live text duties, on a night where Lawrence Shankland stole the headlines once again with a dramatic late winner in the Edinburgh derby.

Elsewhere, there was a battling win for Kilmarnock at St Mirren, and Livingston's winless run continued with a goalless draw against St Johnstone.

We'll be back on Saturday for yet more Scottish Premiership action. See you then.

  2. Levein expects significant January changepublished at 22:57 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    FT: Livingston 0-0 St Johnstone

St Johnstone manager Craig Levein tells BBC Radio Scotland: "Our performance probably didn't merit a win and I think Davie Martindale might say the same.

"It was two fairly nervous teams slugging it out. The result was safe football and generally safe football isn't that entertaining.

"There are things we'd like to add in January. It's difficult, there's also this thing about keeping the wage bill under control. We need to move some players out as well. There might be a fair bit of activity."

  3. 'You can't let fear take over' - Martindalepublished at 22:56 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    FT: Livingston 0-0 St Johnstone

Livingston manager David Martindale tells BBC Radio Scotland: "We had 14 shots, three on target, and we are not converting any of them. The conversion rate needs to get a lot better. That's the story of the game.

"You progress through times of adversity, the individuals, the club, we've all got to dig in and work through this difficult period.

"You can't let fear take over your decision-making on the park and that's probably what we're finding slightly. You are one game, one goal, one win away from everything changing."

  4. Killie on a rollpublished at 22:53 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    FT: St Mirren 0-1 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock are undefeated in their last five games in the Scottish Premiership.

Their last longer unbeaten streak was from 2 March 2019 to 6 April 2019, a run of six games.

  5. Montgomery 'devastated' by derby defeatpublished at 22:49 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    FT: Hibernian 0-1 Hearts

Hibs manager Nick Montgomery tells BBC Scotland:

"Obviously devastated to conceded such a late goal. I thought we played really well and it was a really good game of football for the neutral.

"I said to the boys after I can't ask for any more effort. It's just one mistake and a moment of quality from a top-quality striker, probably one of the best in the league.

"There's some big saves from both keepers, but towards the end I don't think anyone thought it would be anything other than a draw.

"In games like this, it's about big players, big moments. That's why [Shankland has] got so much press about him at the moment, I thought we kept him relatively quiet [before that].

"If I was being honest, I thought we were the team that would have scored the winner towards the end. I'm devastated for the players for their effort and for the fans of course."

On Josh Campbell's injury: "It's a badly rolled ankle. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as we thought and he won't be out for too long. Hopefully we can find reinforcements because we're light on the ground."

  6. 'We deserved more' - Robinsonpublished at 22:45 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    FT: St Mirren 0-1 Kilmarnock

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson tells Sportsound: "I felt we deserved more than what we got out of the game. At the moment it's not happening for us results-wise. The performances have been decent but we've not been ruthless.

"They were ruthless, they got one chance they scored. We're just going through a spell where we're not scoring goals and that goes for the whole team.

"If you aren't scoring, you can get punished from one mistake. It's a ruthless business but we have to keep believing in what we're doing.

"The games don't come any easier, no matter who we've got. I don't have loads of options, apart from the striker area. Among the poor results, they're some very good performances so it's up to me to find the combination."

Lawrence Shankland now has six goals in his last six away games.

He's also scored 63.6% of Hearts' away league goals this season - shows just how crucial he is for the Tynecastle side.

  8. '18 months is a long time in football' - Shanklandpublished at 22:36 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    FT: Hibernian 0-1 Hearts

Lawrence Shankland himself has also been talking to BBC Sportsound:

"I just see [speculation] as a positive, it shows you're doing well.

"18 months is a long time in football. When the club feel it's the right time for that to happen, they'll approach me.

"I'm under contract here, I wouldn't have much choice if they pulled me into a meeting room. I'm fully focused on my football - I'm scoring goals and that's all I can focus on.

"You want to do your job well at club level because that gives you an opportunity to get picked internationally. I just deal with the here and now, but if I keep doing what I'm doing, I give myself a good chance [of making the Euros squad]."

  9. 'Shankland is happy and enjoying his football'published at 22:30 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    FT: Hibernian 0-1 Hearts

More from Steven Naismith, who has been talking to BBC Sportsound:

"When you've got a top-class striker like Shanks, you never rule anything out. He finds calmness in the box, composure, and it's some finish.

"Before that, Zander Clark makes some good saves, and saves the penalty.

"Credit to the team. The way we defended gives you a chance in any game."

On Shankland's future, he said: "If you got an outrageous offer, that's something the club would consider. We've spoke as a club about what the plan is for any player and the development of the club.

"Shanks has got 18 months left, he's happy, he's enjoying his football. We don't need to talk about a contract at the moment. We want him to stay, we'll do all we can, but you can't guarantee anything. We'll enjoy him as long as he's here and we're ready for all eventualities."

They've brought in good Premiership players that the manager can get the best out of.

He knows how to make his teams difficult to beat, and now they are a good, balanced team.

They are going to be up there challenging for a European spot.

  11. 'We want to carry ourselves like a top six team' - McInnespublished at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    FT: St Mirren 0-1 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes on Sportsound:

"It was a tight game, but we score a very good goal. We spoke before the game how the teams play similar systems, and we were just looking for that moment of quality. Good interchange, lovely weighted pass to Marley and a great finish.

"There was no quarter given by both teams. When you get ahead sometimes you need to play against the clock and negate the opposition. We could have picked them off on the break a couple of times, but four away clean sheets in a row - you have to do a lot right to do that.

"We're not looking at teams round about us. We just want to make sure we carry ourselves like a top six team, and hopefully we can keep doing that week in, week out. We've found that consistency recently."

For Hearts, what are they going to do?

Every player has their price, but I just don't see the logic in accepting a big in January for Shankland because the season rests on him.

  13. 'Lawrence's quality wins us the game'published at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2023

    HT: Hibernian 0-1 Hearts

Hearts head coach Steven Naismith has been talking to Sky:

"The game lacked quality overall, but Lawrence's quality wins us the game.

"The most pleasing thing is that we found a way. We've done that consistently recently.

"We've built up our clean sheets, built up our away wins, and those things make a difference.

"We dug right till the very end."

    FT: Hibernian 0-1 Hearts

Hearts captain and match-winner Lawrence Shankland has been talking to Sky:

"I didn't have a great game to be honest, but I was just waiting for that one moment. It's amazing to score that late in the game.

"It's the first penalty I've missed in ages, but that's football - it happens.

"We just need to keep going now. This is a massive win. I'm delighted. So, so happy that went in."
