  3. 'We did everything'published at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Man City 1-1 Chelsea

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Radio 5Live after the draw with Chelsea: "It was a good game. Second half was much better than first. First half we were not in the right rhythm and second half we increase everything and it was a really good performance but we could not win.

"We played good and had a lot of chances. It should be on target because we were so close but it is what it is. To play against that level of team you have to play for 94 minutes. Today that did not happen.

"I always am positive but after we create that amount of chances after the goal so the team did everything and it's enough.

"[We] continue on Tuesday. No one [else] plays because we were in Saudi Arabia to win the Club World Championship in there, [and we] try to recover and play a good game."

On the title race: "We try, we try again."

  4. 'We're pleased but a little bit disappointed'published at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Man City 1-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea goalscorer Raheem Sterling, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "At the end we can be pleased, but at the same time we’re a little bit disappointed. We had chances to finish the game off.

"We knew they’re a team who use the ball really well and that there would be times when we need to use our brains. We’re disappointed not to come away with a bit more.

"We just need to keep being consistent and keep going. [The Carabao Cup final] is another big test and another big opportunity. We need to go into it with the mentality to win the trophy."

On his goal: "I could feel [Kyle Walker] coming in fast and I managed to turn quickly and, thankfully, get the goal."

  5. 'You can't play for just one half against the top teams'published at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Man City 1-1 Chelsea

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the draw with Chelsea: "We knew it [Chelsea would be a challenge]. That was a good game.

"We played incredible in the second half. The first half was not our levels but to compete against them teams you have to play 90 minutes not just one half."

On Pochettino's comments about Chelsea's performance: "Good, congratulations. If he believes that, that is good for his team."

Looking ahead to Tuesday's match against Brentford: "We play Tuesday and we are going to try and get the points. I don't have the message for the fans about that [no panic]. I will focus on my team and I am disappointed for the result. We did our best and [it finished] 1-1."

Jon: Haaland is a fantastic player, he has so many attributes that the only person that can stop him is himself. However, currently he isn’t at the level of the Premier League all time great Alan Shearer - if you’re under 30, check Alan’s record out!

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports, says: "Good game. First half we didn't perform too good, second half really good. We had chances and in the second half we were better.

"I played 11 years and scored 11 goals so I can't give too much advice to Erling [Haaland]. The next one he will score. In the first half we didn't perform well and that's what we have to improve."

Big result for Chelsea, kind of game we would have thrown away completely earlier in the season. Axel Disasi's colossal. Lots of confidence to take to Wembley.

  9. 'Chelsea are a team with a lot of quality'published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    Manchester City

    Bernardo SilvaImage source, Getty Images

Manchester City forward Bernardo Silva, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Two different halves, first half was not good enough and very disappointing, the second half was a reaction from the team.

"But, it's not good enough to play for 45 minutes so we have to try do better next Tuesday [against Brentford].

"It is good that the game is in three days to react, but of course it is a setback as one point at home is not good enough.

"Chelsea are a team with a lot of quality, it's not by chance that they create so many difficult chances.

"The rhythm and the pressing was not good enough and when you play against the quality of Chelsea they punish you - they scored one and could have scored one or two more.

"The reaction from the team was very good, but a bit late."

On the title race: "It is entertaining for the people, but for us it is a setback and it is very tight - everyone can go for it.

"Our job is to perform at the highest possible level."

  10. 'I feel so proud'published at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Man City 1-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I’m so pleased. I told the players I feel so proud. In the last three games we’ve started to create a very good spirit. That’s the way we want to build our team. Today was a very good opportunity to show we’re going where we want.

"The first half was really, really good. We only conceded one chance – against a team like Manchester City who, for me, are the best team in the world.

"In the second half they force you to go deep, but we created chances to score the second goal and things could have been different. It’s important that the players realise that football is really competitive and to reach the level we want, we need to suffer.

"Now we have a very good game against Liverpool [in the Carabao Cup final]. The most important thing is to keep believing. Now we have to recover and prepare for the game as well as possible."

  11. 'When you defend like we did you can't get more'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Manchester City 1-1 Chelsea

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Rodri, speaking to Match of the Day, says: "It's a point, a draw, of course we want to win and the way we performed second half we deserved a bit more but when you defend like we did you can't get more.

"It was in our hands and we have to do better individual actions and you can't let the game go this way. I'm not blaming anyone but we have to take responsibility if we want to win the league.

"We had chances to win and I felt the momentum but sometimes it's a bit frustrating and the ball doesn't go in. I don't want to talk abut the referee, but I don't remember a game with so many VAR checks and none for us, come on man. You always see the face of referee and it's now 'move on, move on'.

"There's still a long way until the end of the season. We have to win against Brentford. We were on a very good run and we know none of us three [City, Liverpool and Arsenal] will win every game until the end. We have to have strong mentality and move on to the next one.

"We have enough experience to know it's just the beginning of the last part of the season. We want to win but we have to check ourselves and in the first half with our defending we have to be stronger for the rest of the season."

  12. 'This is the spirit that we wanted to show'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    Chelsea

    Mauricio PochettinoImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino speaking to Sky Sports after the draw at Manchester City: Very good performance. Very pleased. I think that is the spirit that we want to show. We are working for that. I think they are the best team in the world and to show this performance, I think we need to be proud. We were very brave.

"First half was really good. I think we were aggressive with the ball going forward and winning duels. In the second half I think they dominated and they forced us to defend deeper. I think we sustained the effort and had some chances to win the game. I am so happy. It is a good draw for us and when you face this type of team I think it is important to be brave and fight in every aspect.

"Manchester City have the quality and capacity to create chances and they have amazing players. It is fantastic for us and we need to grow."

On making defensive changes in the second half: "It was in a moment when we needed to try and score the second. I think we decide to not give too much space to them and bring another centre-back on. Playing with a back four they find a good channel and we wanted to try and stop this run. It was difficult because we were not able to score the second goal and they got the goal and the draw."

On carrying momentum into the Carabao Cup final: "We need to feel that is is possible to beat Liverpool. I think we are going to play the second best team in the world. I think belief is the most important thing and now we need to recover and prepare for the final."

Gyimah: Pochettino was let down by his poor substitutions, none of them impacted the game.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we weren’t great in the first half. We conceded another easy goal. I think we have to defend better. They almost created nothing in the first half.

"We knew about their counter-attacks and fast players, but we have to defend the counter-attack better. From there, it’s always more difficult to come back.

"It’s a matter of defending better. We tried in the second half. [We had more] spirit, we wanted the ball and wanted to take risks. We were a bit scared of the counter-attack [in the first half].

    "You have to be brave."

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher speaking to Sky Sports after the draw at Manchester City: "We are slightly disappointed because we were winning the game. They were, in terms of possession, dominating the game but I feel we had a lot of chances to win the game. We are disappointed to concede late but pleased with the point.

"We countered them well so I think it is a fair result in the end.

"I think we had a chance or two to get the second and we didn't. But they had chances as well and it could have gone either way. We'll take the point."

How difficult was that second half? "Really hard. I feel that the lads were brilliant and defensively we were very focused. We were very tired but we saw it through and we are happy with the performance."

Does it give you confidence going into the Carabao Cup final next weekend? "It does. I feel like the lads are confident. We have had some good performances, and then today against a top team. I feel like we are going into the next game with a lot of confidence and we are excited for it."

Chelsea are just set up to play teams who dominate possession and then to counter-attack (such as City). Good performance, but Chelsea have got to try and attack more. With 20 mins to go Chelsea had a big chance to counter and finish the game with a second goal. But, we are a mid-table team now so we put everyone behind the ball.

    Dylan, Chelsea fan

We should have won that. Feel Pochettino made the call to fall back a little early, since attack was proving to be our best defence. I’ll take the point happily though. Step in the right direction!

Chelsea will take this result going into a Cup final. One of their better performances against a top team.

Brilliant performance from Chelsea up until 70 minutes.

They tested Man City more than I have seen anybody before, count-attacking really well and really physical - Chelsea were happy to rough them up.

But, you can never write off this City team.
