Here come the two teams. "Come on!" shouts Sheffield United's Jack Robinson to his team-mates in the tunnel before they head out.

The players look calm and focused, they know what a big opportunity this is to get closer to safety.

Sheffield United allow on average 17.2 shots per game on their goal - the sort of statistic they simply cannot maintain if they are to pull off a great escape.

Scoring goals and conceding goals has been a big problem for Chris Wilder. I'm sure we'll see Ollie McBurnie coming off the bench at some point.

It isn't that long ago since these two sides met here, with Brighton running out 5-2 winners in the FA Cup at the end of January.

The hosts will no doubt want revenge for that, but primarily they will just want to get the three points any way they can.

It is quite a pleasant and warm day today after a bit of a mixed bag yesterday.

The warm-ups have long since been completed at Bramall Lane and the two teams will soon be out ready for kick off.

This is big for Luton because I don't think anyone saw their defeat by bottom side Sheffield United coming.

With Everton losing to Manchester City earlier on Saturday, it was a big chance for them to open up a gap on the bottom three, but they couldn't take it.

I just wonder if that will trigger a little bit of doubt, but their performances at home have been been very good against the bigger teams and I have a feeling we will see more of the same on Sunday.

Manchester United only beat Luton narrowly at Old Trafford in November, and this time I expect it to be even closer.

    Prediction: 2-2

A quick look ahead to today's second game before we put complete focus on Sheffield United vs Brighton.

Luton Town have no fresh injury concerns and new signing Daiki Hashioka could be included for the first time.

Mads Andersen, Marvelous Nakamba and club captain Tom Lockyer remain the only long-term absentees.

Manchester United remain optimistic on Luke Shaw's availability after he was withdrawn at half-time last weekend.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka suffered a knock in training and will join Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, Lisandro Martinez and Mason Mount on the sidelines.

Brighton have not done too well against sides struggling at the bottom of the table in more recent encounters.

They have only won one of their last six Premier League games against sides starting the day in the drop zone (D2 L3), conceding 15 goals across these matches.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder to Sky Sports, on Cameron Archer not in the squad: "It feels like we get one back and then we lose one. That's been the story of the season.

"Disappointing for Cam because he was impressive last week. He got his goal and played a really good part in the win.

"He failed a fitness test yesterday, so unfortunately no Cam."

    • Sheffield United are unbeaten in their last seven league games against Brighton (W4 D3), since a 2-1 home defeat in the Championship in January 2005.
    • Brighton are winless in all five of their Premier League meetings with Sheffield United (D3 L2) – they’ve only faced Fulham (7) more often without ever winning in the competition.
    • Sheffield United have conceded more home Premier League goals than any other side (31 in 12 games). In Premier League history, only West Brom in 2020-21 have shipped more goals in their first 12 home matches in a season (32).
    • Brighton are winless in their last six away Premier League matches (D2 L4), their longest winless run on the road since a seven game run under Graham Potter between September and December 2021.

Scott McCarthy of We Are Brighton: Roberto de Zerbi is a force of nature with his infectious, inspiring personality. That makes it easy to overlook the importance of his backroom team to the success the Italian has delivered in his 17 months at the helm so far.

However, with De Zerbi laid up in Italy after dental surgery and missing the Seagulls' trip to Spurs, assistant head coach Andrea Maldera had a chance to shine. And the way he led Brighton highlighted both what a character De Zerbi is and also that this is much more than a one-man show.

When players who have enjoyed the careers that Adam Lallana and Danny Welbeck have talk about De Zerbi as being one of the best managers they have played under, it is worth listening.

Maldera has had quite the footballing journey himself, with many years' service at AC Milan before becoming assistant manager to Andriy Shevchenko with Ukraine Under-20s.

The duo won the Fifa under-20 World Cup in 2019 and then led the senior side to their first ever quarter-final at a major tournament at Euro 2020.

Speaking before the Spurs game, Maldera, 52, said working with De Zerbi makes him feel "young again". Praise indeed. Then, in his post-game interview, Maldera came across like a teenager living his best life with a voice lost through shouting on the sidelines.

That seamless transition from absent head coach to assistant taking charge is a reminder that this is a team effort. In the coaching team De Zerbi has, there is plenty of talent.

The win at Luton was readily welcomed by Sheffield United fans.

A first away win, a disciplined and clinical performance and maybe a little renewed hope. It is also the first time United have scored three goals away from home in the top flight since March 1993.

If nothing else, it shows the Blades can win games at this level and produce some competitive moments for their fans. There is nothing worse than a season just petering out and there was a danger of that happening if they lost to Luton.

As it is, they are seven points from safety with games against Brighton and Wolves to come. They are difficult, of course, but one or two may just have pondered this week what the table might look like if they can take four or even six points from the next two games.

Meanwhile, Vini Souza has been a hotly debated player in his debut season so it was good to see him get a goal. Our BBC Radio Sheffield summariser Carl Asaba was genuinely excited to see him playing as well as he did and hopefully he can go on from here.

Chris Wilder spoke about engaging the fans after a torrid previous game against Aston Villa. That feels like job done, so let's see if the Blades can avenge their FA Cup defeat against the Seagulls.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, on trying to secure back-to-back wins: "It's difficult to get a point in the Premier League, difficult to get three points in the Premier League, difficult to beat a really talented side with an exceptional manager in the Premier League and we're going to have to do a lot of things right when it comes to getting what we want out of the game at the final whistle.

"We're after a win and if we get it that would be incredible and if we get a result then I'm sure we can use that again like we have done in the Luton game."

We had the focus on the boys' character for the Luton match after a defeat (to Aston Villa). Now you've got the completely opposite because we're playing Brighton who, we all know, are a really great team.

The way they run the club is brilliant, the player recruitment is brilliant and the way the manager sets them up is brilliant. But, it doesn't set the mind alight, you're not rushing to Bramall Lane to see Brighton. It just doesn't have that effect like Liverpool does or Man Utd does. But, arguably they're as good a team.

The boys' mentality has got to be 'we can't drop our performance or mentality, work rate or desire'. It's the same in the stands. I always go on about the importance of the fans - on Saturday they were incredible.

You replicate that form and your work rate, tackling and hunger - those fans are there and we need them again. We need a hostile atmosphere.

Sheffield United showed they have still got a bit of fight left in them with their win over Luton, but they really need to follow that up by beating Brighton too.

The Blades won't lack any effort but I just feel like the Seagulls will have too much quality for them, like they did when they beat them 5-2 at Bramall Lane in the FA Cup a few weeks ago.

Beating the Hatters gave Chris Wilder's side a tiny glimmer of hope of avoiding the drop but, after this result, I am expecting them to feel as flat as a leftover pancake from Shrove Tuesday.

    Prediction: 0-2

  17. 'Top four the bare minimum for Man Utd'published at 13:11 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

Luton v Man Utd (16:30 GMT)

    Michael Brown
    Former Premier League midfielder

Manchester United are going extremely well. Their inconsistency has now turned to a positive again, but can they sustain it? Because that's what keeps happening, they get results and dip.

We've seen some movements in the ownership off the pitch which could create a little bit of positivity going forward. Players are coming back as well from injury, so they've got every chance of finishing fourth, but they're just not favourites yet.

From a player's point of view, there won't be any real interest in what's happening off the pitch, they are used to dealing with it good or bad. But, from a supporter's perspective, the positivity can help the players because the mentality could change now they see a future. Players just feed off that.

They have a really big game coming up in a couple of weeks with the Manchester derby and I think that's the one where people start to say 'what's going to happen with this Manchester United side?'

They are going to be judged on whether they can win their next three games and then going and getting a positive result against Manchester City.

We thought United were going to be challenging for the title this season when it all set off because they won a trophy last year, finished in a good position and the squad looked better. So the top four now is a bare minimum. If not, it's a complete failure for Manchester United. The FA Cup would be another positive, but they cannot finish lower than fourth.

Here's how it looks at the bottom of the table. Sheffield United are seven points from safety but win today and that will reduce to four.

That, however, would change again if Luton get a result against Manchester United.
