  2. Rodgers wants signings 'sooner rather than later'published at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    FT: St Mirren 0-3 Celtic

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: "We made a really good start, this can be a really tricky place to come and play, but we started on the front foot, playing forward and scored two goals in the opening 10 minutes.

"I'm really pleased, the sending off meant it was more difficult for them but we managed that side of it in the second half much better than we did at the weekend.

"Off the back of a tough winter period, a win against Rangers, it was a good performance."

On losing Daizen Maeda to international duty, Rodgers added: "There are players to come back in, Maeda sometimes suffers playing against a low block but his goal was excellent.

"I think the subs [today] were much better than what they were at the weekend. We got some minutes into important players like Liel Abada and gave Kyogo a break and a chance to recover.

When asked about January reinforcements, the Celtic boss said: "There is discussions and work is going on, hopefully we will get them in sooner rather than later. When we do, you will find out.

Rodgers also addressed the red card incident from the first half.

"He is not meaning to do it but if you are taking a stud in the eye, it is a red card even if he is not meaning to do it," he said.

  6. 'Red card not an excuse for defeat' - Robinsonpublished at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    FT: St Mirren 0-3 Celtic

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "I haven't seen [the red card] back, but that wasn't the reason why we lost the game so it's irrelevant.

"We started the game really poorly against a very good Celtic side, which you can't do. The red card compounds the pain we're suffering. It was a long afternoon.

"I'm not sure what [Olusanya's] supposed to do. It's a red card in today's game unfortunately, but that's not an excuse.

"We were struggling injury wise, we had to change shape. We need a bit more quality to keep us where we are. It's about bringing the right players in."

It looked as if Celtic were high in confidence today.

They were doing all the things that a good Celtic team of the past has done.

They were off it for a while during this early part of the season but they were back at it today.

The only surprise was there wasn't more goals but that was down to the performance of Zach Hemming in the St Mirren goal.

St Mirren worked really hard and I think Stephen Robinson got as much out of his players as he could today.
