    Tottenham 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

On whether he's shocked Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of this season, Pep Guardiola said: "I am a little bit, he’s an absolutely incredible manager and I know I don’t know him closely but he’s an incredible person as well. I had a feeling that he’s leaving part of us too at Man City as Liverpool have been our biggest rival in his years.

"He will be missed, personally I will miss. I am pleased because without him I will sleep a little bit better the night before we play against Liverpool! But I wish him all the best. He doesn’t admit it but he will be back.

"All the managers will [feel tired] when you’ve done many years, I feel it completely. I felt it at Barcelona so I understand it completely."

"We create a lot in every game and have courage with or without the ball so I’m really pleased.

On goalscorer Nathan Ake: "He has incredible tempo in our set pieces and attack, and it's one of his best skills."

Barry Bannan’s assist for Djeidi Gassama’s equaliser was his first goal involvement since August 2023 (goal against Cardiff), putting an end to a 21-match run.

Chelsea need a centre forward, Cole Palmer is not a centre forward. They were linked to Callum Wilson and if you can get him for £18 million, I'd bite your hand off.

It's OK saying "goalkeepers need to be stronger" but when you have a player wrestling the goalkeeper into the goal, with no intention to play the ball, surely that's a foul? It was happening all game.

  9. 'It was just too tough a test for us'published at 22:24 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Tottenham 0-1 Man City

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou to ITV: "It was a tough game against a top side. We worked hard to stay in the game and conceded so late. But they were the better side.

"They make you suffer at points so we had to work hard and for the most part we defended well. It was just too tough a test for us.

"We continue on with the way we’ve been going, it doesn’t mean today changes anything for us."

On Nathan Ake's goal and the possibility the goalkeeper was impeded, Postecglou said: "I’m sure they had a good look at it and the referee and VAR didn’t see anything wrong with it. The decision was made and we have to accept it."

  10. 'We want to be contenders in this competition'published at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery to BBC Sport: "There were two different halves in the match. The first half was more or less for them and they created chances. But we played very well defensively, very well in our own box and we played very well with Emiliano Martinez.

"Second half we got better. We created chances and we were in their box. We were controlling the game. But at the end, I think this draw, for both teams, is what they deserve.

"It's very important to compete and adapt to each opponent. We did that today.

"We tried to keep our mind and game plan clear. In the second half we tried to get progressively better."

On goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez: "He played amazing today. He saved us two or three times. And then he was always ready to cover our centre-backs in behind. Emiliano today, we needed him. And really he played like he is - number one.

"Now we play at home, of course we wanted to win the match but now we accept this draw. We play at home in two weeks with our supporters.

"This competition is important for everybody. We want to be contenders as well. The message is clear, we want to try to be contenders in this competition. Of course it is difficult, but today we showed it."

FT: Bristol City 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Bristol City and Nottingham Forest are both going to an FA Cup replay for the second round in a row.

The last time Forest had multiple FA Cup replays in a season was 1995-96. For City it was 2006-07.

After losing 14 of 18 away games between February and December 2023, Nottingham Forest have since lost just one of their last five.

FT: Bristol City 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Bristol City boss Liam Manning, speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm really pleased. It epitomises what the group is about. I thought we had some really good passages of control. I can’t speak highly enough of the lads.

"I thought they showed a terrific level of focus throughout the game. The history of the club in the cup, we can use that to inspire use. We have shown away at West Ham we can perform. We can take the belief from that [into the replay with Forest].

"We have shown the level we can hit. What he lads have shown over three games against Premier League is that we are heading in the right direction.

  13. 'We just weren't clinical enough'published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Aston Villa

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino to BBC Sport: "I think it was a very good game, I think we dominated more of the beginning. Then in the second half, after 70 minutes, we start to drop our energy because we played three days ago, and of course that is a massive difference.

"When we were with the full energy we were the better side. Now is to think about the replay and of course move on and try to recover the players for the next game.

"I am so happy with the performance of the whole team, I think the performance was good we just weren't clinical enough. For them to face a team like Aston Villa who are doing fantastic in the Premier League and are in the top four, I think it's a very good signal that we are improving.

"Of course we wanted to win. we were not clinical enough. But we created chances and we need to keep believing and now we move on."

On Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez's performance: "Of course he is a world champion and is world class. It's always so difficult to beat them.

"Of course it will be difficult but it is also an opportunity for us to keep growing and improving and of course we will take it in this way."

Dias was blocking Vicario's direct access to crosses from corners all game! It was Spurs' mistake for not catching and deciding to put a defender between the keeper and Dias! Had they done so, that goal would've been avoided!

    FT: Tottenham 0-1 Man City

Tottenham failed to score in a match for the first time since March 2023 in their Champions League last 16 second leg against Milan, ending a run of 35 games.

Spurs didn’t have a shot in the first half, the first time they failed to record a shot in the opening 45 minutes of a home match since February 2020 – which was also against Manchester City (in the Premier League).

Indeed, they finished the match having mustered just one shot, Brennan Johnson's in the 53rd minute.

This was their first FA Cup home defeat since February 2016 against Crystal Palace, ending a 13-game unbeaten run (W12 D1) on home soil in the competition.

To me, that's not even close to a foul. That ball is within six inches of Ruben Dias' head, he has every right to go for it.

FT: Bristol City 0-0 Nottingham Forest

    Nottingham Forest

"Now we have to regroup again and play again. We came here to try and win. That was our main objective. We now have one more game. We have to play it. Hopefully we will recover some bodies for that match.

"A clean sheet is always something we have to look for as a team."

    Tottenham 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Nathan Ake speaking to ITV: "I’m so happy. It was tough but I think we played well all game.

"We trusted the way we played, we created multiple chances and had the belief to keep going even though we weren't scoring. I thought it was never going to come but it finally did.

"I think it was important to go through, we want to be in every competition possible and now we're through to the next round."

On Tottenham appealing his goal for impeding the goalkeeper, Ake said: "I’m not sure what happened, I just saw the ball in front of me and went for it. I’ll have to see [it back]."
