  1. 'Sloppy goal to concede for Mansfield'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Mansfield 0-1 Sutton

    Craig Armstrong
Former Mansfield defender on BBC Radio Nottingham

It is a calamity of a goal!

A bit messy - a really, really sloppy goal to concede for Mansfield Town.

They have made it easy for Sutton United to create opportunities.

It is one of those games that looks like it is going to be stretched.

  2. Reading fans urge against repeat protestpublished at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Reading v Derby (20:00 GMT)

Reading are back on home soil 10 days after fans forced the abandonment of their game against Port Vale in protest at the club's owner, Dai Yongge, for which they have received a suspended three-point deduction.

Reading supporters group Sell Before We Dai have urged against a repeat protest tonight.

Can fans find succour on the pitch? Defeat at Wigan on Saturday leaves them four points from safety.

Derby may feel there is victory for the taking amid the disruption.

They begin the night only three points off the top of League One but after back-to-back wins, were held 0-0 at Lincoln at the weekend.

  3. goal

GOAL: Mansfield 0-1 Suttonpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Lee Angol (8 mins)

An early lead for League Two's bottom side!

It's the best possible start for Sutton United after sloppiness at the back from Mansfield sees the ball land in Lee Angol's path for him to side foot it past Christy Pym.

Mansfield will not look forward to watching that goal back.

  4. Postpublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Bolton 0-0 Cheltenham

Action from the off at Bolton as Ricardo Santos plays a dangerous ball in for the home side that's turned behind for a corner.

And then Dion Charles steals some space in the area and gets a shot away that's parried clear by Luke Southwood for Cheltenham.

  5. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Mansfield 0-0 Sutton

I did say earlier it would not be straightforward for Mansfield in this one, and it's the visitors that have had the better of the opening stages.

Oliver Sanderson has gone closest for Sutton, firing a venomous first-time strike just past the post. A bright start for the bottom side.

  6. Oxford look to put pressure on Tykes defencepublished at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

Barnsley look like they are going to play out from the back, so anything can happen if Oxford press them high.

Hopefully they can win the ball and create a chance.

  7. Wind could make life difficult at Boltonpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Bolton 0-0 Cheltenham

    Nicky Hunt
Former Bolton defender on BBC Radio Manchester

The wind might play a factor.

But, if Bolton play the way they do, it is going to be difficult for Cheltenham.

It's not often that Bolton make mistakes, especially here at home.

They have got one job to do and that is to win a game of football.

Every MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon fan would have marked this day in their calendar when the League Two fixture list came out at the start of the season.

Tonight's grudge match between the two sides takes place at Stadium MK, a not so happy hunting ground for Wimbledon, who are winless in their five trips to MK Dons in the Football League (D2 L3).

Stats are made to be broken, but MK Dons will hope that is not the case as they are unbeaten in their last three midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) league games.

Meanwhile, Bradford City manager Graham Alexander will face off against his former side Salford City tonight for the first time in the league since leaving the Ammies in 2020.

Alexander played a major part in Salford's history, leading them to promotion to the Football League in 2019, but tonight he will want his Bradford side to continue their fine form against his former employers, having won their last three league games against the Greater Manchester side.

I hope, like me, you are excited for another potentially delectable night of EFL football!

  10. Can Sutton throw a spanner into the Mansfield machine?published at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Mansfield v Sutton (19:45 GMT)

Sutton sit bottom of the league, whilst Mansfield have only lost one home league match all season, should be a straightforward night for the Stags, right? Well, we all know that's not how football works.

Only last month, Mansfield came away from South London 2-0 winners against the then managerless basement boys, adding more misery to an already horrible season for Sutton.

However, after Mansfield lost their first home league match of the season against Crewe on January 6, they won't want to take tonight lightly.

If the Stags return to winning ways, they would climb back above Wrexham and into second place, four points clear of Crewe in fourth, whose game against Morecambe has been postponed.

In contrast, Sutton are desperate for a win, and would move off the foot of the table with anything but a defeat in tonight's game. Can Steve Morison pull off a shock to get his first win as Sutton boss?

Elsewhere in League One this evening, relegation-threatened Exeter, who have lost eight of their past nine away league matches - conceding 27 goals in the process - visit Bristol Rovers, who have lost three games in a row.

Charlton have also been having a miserable time. The Addicks are without a win in nine matches - a run which has included five defeats - and will be looking to end that dismal form at home to Northampton.

Meanwhile, Wycombe visit Wigan - where the Chairboys have never won.

  12. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Peterborough 0-0 Crawley Town

Don't forget the Bristol Street Motors Trophy! The final last-16 tie is being played tonight at London Road.

This match should have been played a couple of weeks ago, but a frozen pitch forced the postponement of the game just an hour or so before kick off.

No such trouble this time - could Wembley beckon for one of these sides?

  13. Sixth host fifth at the Kassampublished at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Oxford v Barnsley (19:45 GMT)

The game of the night comes at the Kassam Stadium as Oxford, in sixth, host Barnsley, fifth.

Both sides were frozen off at the weekend and both had previously won two in a row.

Oxford have not included winger Kyle Edwards or striker Will Goodwin in their squad, after the pair recently signed from Ipswich and Cheltenham respectively.

Barnsley, unbeaten in 10 league games, have done some off-field business this week to secure their future at Oakwell, after signing a 30-year lease with the local council.

  14. Points in perspective at Boltonpublished at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January

    Bolton v Cheltenham (19:45 GMT)

The mood will no doubt be sombre in Bolton tonight as these sides meet for this game, rearranged after Bolton fan Iain Purslow died as he watched from the stands on 13 January.

Wanderers will hope to honour him with three points to move closer to the automatic promotion spots. They start the night in fourth, having seen a four-game winning streak ended with a 1-0 defeat at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Cheltenham have picked up well since Darrell Clarke took charge but haven't completed 90 minutes since 6 January after the abandonment at Bolton and postponement on Saturday, due to frost.

They remain four points from safety but have two games in hand on Exeter in 20th.

Good evening and welcome to our live text coverage of this evening’s matches in League One and League Two. It’s a windy night out there and we’ve got nine fixtures to keep you updated on - and will do so with great gusto.

With the top two not in action tonight, third-placed Derby will go top of League One if they win at Reading, who face a very different battle at the opposite end of the table and continue to be beset by problems on and off the pitch.

That match kicks-off at 20:00 GMT, while five other games in the division and three in League Two start at 19:45.
