Another goal for the in-form Patrick Bamford!

Rotherham aren't happy and perhaps they have every reason not to be.

Junior Firpo's cross is turned in by the one-time England striker but has he used his hand? They certainly think so.

No VAR in the Championship, goal stands.

    A nightmare start for Stoke.

Just the small matter of an 800-mile round trip and 4am start for many Argyle supporters to follow their boys today, from Devon to Wearside.

Now that’s dedication - but will it be rewarded?

There's an immediate half-chance to excite as Mickel Miller crosses to the back post, where Bali Mumba heads wide against the club he started his career with.

It's a hopeful Loftus Road today.

You can feel the energy from the crowd as a win for the home side, providing results go their way, could move them out of the relegation zone at the final whistle for the first time since September.

The weather can’t make its mind up here at Vicarage Road.

One minute it’s raining, next a warm sun bathes the pre-match warm-ups.

Perhaps more certain is the outcome of this game. Leicester are running away with the top spot and the Hornets are hardly buzzing as we enter the final third of the season.

Recalled loanee Ben Nelson makes his first full league start for Leicester after impressing in cup games.

You know what they say - what a difference two weeks makes…

A fortnight ago, Sunderland fans almost unanimously wanted Michael Beale gone - four points from two games since, the Stadium of Light is a lot happier.

    Football, eh?

Today, they welcome an Argyle side looking for back-to-back away wins in their longest trip of the season.

As one supporter told me coming off the bus, “I’m knackered already - and the game hasn’t even started yet".

Thirteenth-placed Cardiff gave their flagging play-off push a boost with a surprise 1-0 win at Watford last time out. They'll look to build on that against 10th-placed Preston, themselves fresh from a 3-2 win over Ipswich. A word of warning, three of the past four games between these pair have ended goalless.

Hull City go into this afternoon's game in the last of the much-coveted play-off spots. Liam Rosenior's men have bounced back from successive defeats with back-to-back wins, and host a Swansea side on a run of three straight losses. New boss Luke Williams will know form like that could see them end up in the relegation scrap.

Middlesbrough sit exactly where you would expect a team with the same number of wins and losses to be, slap bang in the middle of the table. That puts them two places and three points better off than Liam Manning's Bristol City, who are without a win in their past five league games.

Seven points from their past three games has kept QPR within touching distance of escaping the Championship relegation zone. Today's opponents Norwich are in decent nick up at the other end of the table and have lost just two of their past 18 league matches against the R's.

Fair play to the Plymouth fans who have made the longest journey in the Championship this season to head up to Sunderland. The Black Cats are just outside the play-off spots despite a run of just one win in their past four, while the Pilgrims will be looking to build on their first away win of the season at Swansea last Saturday.

    John EustaceImage source, Getty Images

After weeks of speculation, Blackburn took the plunge yesterday and parted with boss Jon Dahl Tomasson in a bid to reverse their slide towards the drop zone.

In less time than it takes to play a half of football, John Eustace was installed as the new boss, though he will be in the stands today as first-team coaches David Lowe and Damien Johnson oversee today’s visit of Stoke.

Rovers, in 18th, are without a win in eight Championship games, a run which has brought them within five points of the dreaded bottom three, and seen them pick up two points from four games against teams below them.

The Potters are another misfiring side dicing with danger - sitting two places and a shaky four points above the trapdoor.

Steven Schumacher’s reign started with a five-match unbeaten run in the league, but they kick-off today after three straight defeats, and a chastening 5-0 thumping at home to Leicester last time out.

Alongside the England v Wales clash in the Six Nations we have a similar battle here at the MKM Stadium.

Here, England have been on top in recent weeks, with Hull City very much in the play-off picture and roaring ahead under the careful stewardship of Liam Rosenior. The Tigers have added well in January and look well-placed to grab a play-off spot.

In stark contrast, Luke Williams' move from Notts County to Swansea hasn't worked out as he would like but, in all honesty, he will need time to sort out the Swans. They haven't won a Championship game since New Year's Day and I don't think they end that run here today.

Second in the table and unbeaten since 23 September? No wonder Southampton skipper Adam Armstrong is smiling

Southampton's storming form since a run of four defeats in September has been nothing short of superb.

The Saints are on a club record run of 24 games without defeat in all competitions and have won their past eight in front of their own fans.

Today's opponents Huddersfield are without a manager and just three points above the relegation zone.

They did hammer fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 last time out, though, and drew with the Saints up in West Yorkshire back in November.

It's been a while since Leeds lost at home. Well, May to be exact.

The third-placed Whites are a formidable opponent at Elland Road for anyone - but for a team who are bottom of the league and without a win on the road since November 2022?

    Yikes.

Millers boss Leam Richardson is a Leeds fan and is hopeful his charges, 12 points adrift of safety, can pull off maybe the shock of the season today.
