    Coventry 0-1 Millwall

Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

Millwall, for a team that don't score a lot of goals, are causing lots of problems down both flanks.

Coventry have to liven up defensively otherwise they will soon find themselves 2-0 down

Millwall are flooding the midfield areas, getting an overload and then getting the ball wide. And then they have time to get quality in from out wide.

    Again Coventry hit the woodwork!

Victor Torp's venomous free-kick is tipped on to the bar by Matija Sarkic in the Millwall goal.

Corner number one is turned behind before Millwall get the second away.

This is better from the home side.

Danny McNamara whips a ball into the box which is punched away by Coventry keeper Bradley Collins. The ball goes only as far as Joe Bryan on the left hand side, who takes it down and fires a low shot wide of the far post.

This has been an excellent start by the away side.

  5. 'What is happening defensively?'published at 12:19 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2024

    Coventry 0-1 Millwall

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

It's a really disappointing way to concede. It's a long ball and if you're not going to win the ball, don't contest it. It's about experience and what balls you challenge for.

I'm not sure Brad Collins would have seen much of it, but that was a good save he made from Michael Obafemi.

    What is happening defensively?

    Could be 2-0!

Danny McNamara plays the ball in from the right and it's Michael Obafemi this time who tests Bradley Collins. But the striker's effort is straight at the goalkeeper.

Four shots - four on target for the Lions.

The 18-year-old gives Millwall the lead!

Zian Flemming darts in from the left and squares the ball to Romain Esse, who blasts it goalwards with his left foot. A small deflection takes it past Bradley Collins and it slams into the back of the net.

Two huge early chances in this game, it could easily be 1-1.

The fans have found their voice after that Tatsuhiro Sakamoto chance but Millwall are back on the ball, as Michael Obafemi draws the save from Bradley Collins with a fierce effort from the edge of the area.

  9. 'Coventry had enough chances for three goals'published at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2024

    Coventry 0-0 Millwall

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

It's been a very lively start. Millwall have threats everywhere and could have been ahead in the first minute.

And Coventry had enough chances in that one attack to have scored three goals. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto couldn't quite get the contact he wanted.

Big save by Millwall keeper Matija Sarkic to deny Tatsuhiro Sakamoto!

The ball comes in and Sakamoto hits at goal but the keeper does well to keep it out and then Haji Wright's follow-up hits the post and then is flicked back on to the post again by Japhet Tanganga. Relief for Millwall!

The hosts currently sit 10th in the Championship on 44 points. A win today would move them up to sixth and into the play-off places, ahead of Sunderland on goal difference.

Defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road last weekend ended a 10-match unbeaten run in the league for the Sky Blues. But they got back to winning ways on Tuesday, beating Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 to advance to the FA Cup fifth round.

Millwall have picked up just one point in the last four league games which leaves them 18th in the table. A victory would likely push them up to 16th, above Swansea City but below Plymouth Argyle on goal difference, and more crucially, would leave them seven points above London rivals Queens Park Rangers in the relegation zone.

  18. Excitement and trepidation for home fanspublished at 11:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2024

    Coventry v Millwall (12:00 GMT)

The increased traffic queues on your way into any football stadium are always a good sign that a team is going well.

It certainly looks the case for Coventry City today, as their hungry fans chase down the three points at home to Millwall that would catapult them four places back up the Championship table into the play-off zone.

The Sky Blues are already in a better place now than they were this time last season, when they made their late push for the play-offs - and ultimately painful Wembley failure.

But today they face the unpredictability of a Millwall side needing points for a quite different reason, having gone five games without a win to slide down to 18th in the table.

In any era, in any division, in all my time watching football, Millwall have always been unpredictable.

Absolute coupon wreckers, serial spoilers, the failed final leg in many a scuppered acca.

The muted air around the arena suggests that the City fans somehow sense this too!

A quick recap of some of the action so far...

The weekend began with a 2-0 home win for relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday over Birmingham City.

Yesterday, Southampton fought back from 2-0 to win an extraordinary game of football 5-3 against Huddersfield Town at St Mary's.

Runaway leaders Leicester City beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road for their third league win in a row.

And can anyone stop Leeds United? The Yorkshire side beat bottom-of-the-table Rotherham 3-0 for their sixth league win on the trot as they continue to hunt down Saints for that second automatic promotion spot.
