  1. Until next time...

    #bbcefl

    Wigan Athletic's Stephen Humphrys

Well, time to close the lid on another action-packed night of EFL action, where League One's second and third-placed sides Derby and Bolton both missed their chance to make up ground on leaders Portsmouth.

Goals aplenty in League Two, meanwhile, with bottom side Sutton pulling off a rare win and Forest Green Rovers agonisingly close to doing the same.

What drama will the next round of EFL games bring? Find out on Friday evening, when we bring you coverage of a crucial West Midlands derby in the Championship, with West Brom hosting Coventry.

Until then, thank you for your company and good night!

  2. 'Humphrys blew the roof off the DW'

    FT: Wigan 1-0 Bolton

    Sanny Rudravajhala

BBC Radio 5 Live at Toughsheet Community Stadium

Well, the PA is turned up to 11 and the Latics players are just finishing their lap of honour.

It’s eight games across nine years now since Bolton beat their Lancashire rivals and it’s pretty mad that this record has carried on tonight.

Wigan didn’t manage a shot on target for over an hour as Bolton dominated possession and chance creation.

But we all know football can belie the stats and when Stephen Humphrys came off the bench nine minutes into the second half, you felt he’d only need a chance to again be the hero.

The man who got two in their 4-0 win in August slid home the winner 15 minutes after coming on and blew the roof off the DW.

My ears are ringing. The PA and the home support are responsible.

  5. Midweek misery on road for U's

    FT: Salford 1-1 Colchester United

    Danny Cowley

Fourth-bottom Colchester have won one of their last 17 midweek league games on the road, picking up six points from those matches.

They're not scheduled to have any more of them this season, but they do play a midweek game against Grimsby - currently immediately below them - in their penultimate home match.

Danny Cowley will hope their predicament has improved by then.

  8. Walsall run to keep rolling?

    FT: Walsall 2-1 Accrington Stanley

    Mat Sadler

Walsall have lost one of their last nine home games in League Two, winning six of them.

Good times for the Saddlers, who host fifth-bottom Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

  9. FULL-TIME

    Wigan 1-0 Bolton

And that's that... yet again, Wigan hold the magical formula for beating Bolton!

Stephen Humphrys' strike midway through the second half earns the Latics the points.

It's back-to-back defeats for Bolton, who miss their chance to take over second place from Derby - also beaten tonight for the second time in succession.

  10. Fans 'beckoning Wanderers on'

    Wigan 1-0 Bolton

    Sanny Rudravajhala

BBC Radio 5 Live at Toughsheet Community Stadium

More than 4,000 Bolton fans behind the goal and beckoning their team on. They’ll have another four additional minutes to see if they can come away from Wigan with a point.

  11. Post update

    Wigan 1-0 Bolton

Wigan are clinging on, but there must have been a few sharp intakes of breath just now as Bolton skipper Ricardo Santos headed wide from a corner.

Ian Evatt's side are throwing the kitchen sink at this, pinning the Latics deep inside their own territory and we're heading towards four minutes of added time.

  12. Rovers' revival

    FT: Forest Green 1-1 Wrexham

    Steve Cotterill

They might have missed out on three points tonight, but Forest Green were nine from safety after losing 1-0 to Accrington in Steve Cotterill's first match in charge at the end of January.

Their League Two survival is now in their hands under their sixth manager since June 2022. The game at Grimsby on Saturday is a potentially huge one in both clubs' seasons.

  13. 'When they get into the box, there's no one there'

    Wigan 1-0 Bolton

    Nicky Hunt

Former Bolton defender on BBC Radio Manchester

Very patient build up from Bolton but what’s on the end of it? Not a lot.

The problem they’ve got is when they get into the box, there’s no-one there. They need numbers; they haven’t got them.

  14. Post update

    Wigan 1-0 Bolton

Right now it looks as though Portsmouth and Barnsley may be the night's big winners in League One - despite neither side kicking a ball.

Pompey could maintain their seven-point lead at the top, with fourth-placed Barnsley also benefitting from Derby's shock defeat by Charlton - and the possibility of a Bolton loss at the DW Stadium.

Wanderers' poor recent record against their Greater Manchester neighbours is set to continue - but there's still time for it to change.

  15. League Two full-time headlines

    #bbcefl

    • Bottom side Sutton United have held on for a brilliant 4-3 win at Notts County and they are now four points adrift of safety in League Two.
    • Promotion-chasing Wrexham scored an added-time penalty to make it 1-1 and deny second-bottom Forest Green a surprise win.
    • Walsall are into the play-off places after beating Accrington 2-1.
    • Newport have won their sixth league game in eight attempts, thrashing Harrogate 4-1 away from home.
    • Swindon have moved up one place in the table to 17th after a 3-1 win over Tranmere, who had been immediately above them in the table.
    • It's finished 1-1 between Salford and Colchester.
  16. League One full-time headlines

    #bbcefl

Charlton celebrate taking a 2-1 lead at Derby
    • Charlton have pulled off a shock 2-1 victory at Derby County, with the Addicks moving three points clear of the relegation zone.
    • Bottom side Carlisle have won 1-0 at Burton to end a run of eight defeats in a row.
    • Stevenage have moved into the play-off places with a 1-0 win over Cambridge United.
    • Leyton Orient and Lincoln have boosted their chances of making the play-off spots with wins over Blackpool and Shrewsbury respectively.
    • Fleetwood have come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Port Vale in a battle between two sides languishing inside the relegation zone.
    • Cheltenham also haven't helped their cause to stay in League One, losing 2-0 at Wycombe.
    • Third-placed Bolton are still playing in the late kick-off at Wigan, who lead 1-0.
  17. 'It's happened again...'

    Wigan 1-0 Bolton

    Sanny Rudravajhala

BBC Radio 5 Live at Toughsheet Community Stadium

“Blue and White Army” echoes around the DW. Stephen Humphrys’ tenth of the season was Wigan’s first shot on target and they’re now pushing for a second!

Bolton haven’t beaten Wigan in nine years across seven games.

“It’s happened again…” the home fans now sing.

  18. Post update

    Wigan 1-0 Bolton

Chances at both ends, but it's still that Stephen Humphrys strike that separates the sides with more than 10 minutes (plus added time) to go.

Wigan's Thelo Aasgaard was denied by Bolton keeper Joel Coleman, while a Josh Sheehan free-kick fizzed just wide of the far post for the visitors.

  19. 'What matters is 90 minutes, not 30'

    FT: Port Vale 2-2 Fleetwood

    Phil Sproson

Former Port Vale captain on BBC Radio Stoke

Once Jensen Weir had to come off, Port Vale lost their grip in the midfield. Then Fleetwood were in the ascendancy.

The first half was a much improved performance. In the first 20 minutes they played exceptionally well but you always thought that Fleetwood would come at you. It was only a matter of time before they scored.

What matters is 90 minutes, not 30. Unfortunately, they paid the price.

  20. FULL-TIME

    Port Vale 2-2 Fleetwood

Quite a comeback from Fleetwood, who deservedly take a point against their fellow strugglers thanks to that late double by Jayden Stockley.

Vale had led 2-0 at the break through Jensen Weir and Ethan Chislett's penalty - but they have to settle for a share of the spoils and their winless run stretches to 10 games.
