Three of Tuesday's English Football League and National League games have been postponed because of waterlogged pitches.

In League One, the basement battle between Burton in 18th and Cheltenham, sat eight points back in 22nd but with two games in hand, was called off.

After consistent heavy rainfall in the region on Tuesday, the playing surface at the Pirelli Stadium was deemed unplayable when the match officials arrived just before 18:00 GMT.

In League Two, Walsall's mid-table match at home to Morecambe was also called off just an hour before kick-off, with the visitors having completed the first leg of a 250-mile round-trip.

There was an even longer journey in the National League as struggling Dorking's game at promotion-chasing Altrincham was postponed.

With 16 matches remaining, Sheffield Wednesday face an uphill task to retain their Championship status. They are second-bottom and eight points shy of safety.

No Championship team has lost more on the road than Wednesday this season with 12 defeats, but boss Danny Rohl remains convinced they can still avoid the drop.

He added: “I have learned a lot about my team in the last few months and how big the morale is.

“I always spoke about our process but it is about taking results now. I will go forward and lead this group and at the end we will see if it is enough.

“As long as I’m the manager here, we will fight in every game to take something. We have to come back stronger and try again.”

Coventry, who lost in the Championship play-off final last season, are seventh in the division, only one point away from the play-offs.

Southampton assistant manager Matt Gill says "it's a huge month coming up and beyond" so while their unbeaten run is important, it's about managing minutes.

Speaking to the media before tonight's FA Cup replay against Watford, Gill said: "It's important we're at home, but we need to start the game cleaner than the away leg.

"It's a huge month coming up and beyond but we want to win the game. The unbeaten run has been brilliant and we want to continue that.

"The lads deserve so much credit but we'll always look at the bigger picture and what's best for the squad. It's important we have everyone with us and there will be a balance to be had in terms of minutes."

This may be an extra game in the FA Cup, it may be a long journey, and Leeds may also be firmly involved in a promotion push in the Championship, but their manager Daniel Farke offered a refreshing take on the idea that the players would be tired.

"When you started to play football it was because you wanted to play football," he said.

"When we were all younger we wanted to play every day. Our parents and grandparents, aunties and uncles, couldn't tell us, 'No, you're tired, you can't play football.'

"Every football player loves to play football and there are lots of coaching and support staff nowadays to make sure you're ready.

"We want to win every football game and I'm never tired to be in a football game because this is what we are all about. We love this sport, we are addicted to the sport.

"We want to have these games and to be successful in the cup too."

Plymouth appointed former England U20s coach Ian Foster at the start of January and he has had an immediate impact, guiding Argyle away from relegation trouble in the Championship.

With his side in good form, Foster believes his players are up for the challenge of facing a strong Leeds side.

"The boys are full of confidence, which is great," he said. "You just hope you can transfer it from competition to competition.

“We’re five games into an unbeaten streak, which is wonderful, long may that continue. We know that it's going to be a very difficult ask for us because of the quality of the opposition. We'll embrace that challenge. We'll give it a good go, and hopefully that will be enough for us.”
