Davey: Great performance that should see City into the quarters, never take anything for granted but hopefully get decent draw as we progress.

A bit more from Pep Guardiola on the Manchester City injuries, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live:

"Bernardo [Silva] has a big knock. Looks like a muscular [injury] for Jack Grealish.

"It is a pity. He helped us to play at the right tempo."

    Jack looked upset?

"He felt it when he rolled on the grass. They know."

A reminder that the return leg at the Etihad is in three weeks on 6 March.

City host United in the Manchester derby on 3 March and play at Liverpool in a potential title-deciding match on 10 March.

Have City done enough for Pep Guardiola to rest key players for the second leg?

Davie: Well done Manchester City. And as an England fan I can only hope that Gareth Southgate will do the right thing and play Phil Foden as a No 10.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to TNT Sports: "Really, really good, so proud. It was important. Today was perfect. They were patient in the right moments. Really good. I'm really proud of the team. The third goal helped us a lot. Hopefully we can finish it off at home and go to the next game.

"It was important to not lose the tie here. The game was really well played from the first minute. We conceded a goal but sometimes that happens. In the second half they played with five in the back but in general we did well. We didn't concede transitions or make the crowd support the team... We had the perfect tempo so really pleased."

On Kevin de Bruyne's impact since returning:"Yeah, extraordinary. The first goal was amazing, the right pass and tempo from Phil Foden. The biggest players appear on the biggest stages. It's the hour of truth. We started well. We have to do our job and finish it. I'm just really pleased for the result."

Livingmercerway: Great result. That kind of error from Ederson has been waiting to happen for a while. Let's hope he's got it out of his system.

Manchester City's Phil Foden, speaking to TNT Sports: "It was hard to hear each other at times, the atmosphere here is unbelievable and the early goal settled us a little bit so delighted to get that."

Have you felt more important in this City side? "I don't think so. It's the most run of games I think I've had in the City team. You get a rhythm. I'm feeling good. You find your feet and you start getting connections with other players, I think that's what it's down to."

Favourite position? "Obviously I prefer to play in the pockets but today I played out wide but I did an alright job.

Why there? "I just feel alive and that I'm always involved in the game. You can get involved and have a few touches and grow into the game more. I've always played there from young so I've always been used to it."

On the goals: "Me and Kevin [de Bruyne] have built that connection now so we know where we're running. He's such an important player for us.

"When teams play in a low block you need runners in behind. Kevin knows the right time to make that movement and it makes my job easier. For me, there's no better player in the world at passing the ball. He's a pleasure to play with and so important.

"It's a special group. I enjoy being here every day. There's so much hunger. When you have that determination it goes a long way."

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, speaking to TNT Sports: "It's tough. We've played here a couple of times and the atmosphere is great. We had to respect them.

"We started really well. We made one mistake and they capitalised but I thought we played really well. We scored the third goal and it's a little bit of an advantage now.

"We try to minimise the mistakes. The second half we dominated again. They changed to a back five but we still found the chances and did what we needed to do.

"I'm just trying to play good. It's been a long five or six months but I'm just happy to be back, helping the team win games and be at my best.

"I feel alright. Obviously I still need a couple more games and minutes. I've not played 90 minutes for almost a year but I'm getting there, I'm feeling good and the level is good enough for the moment - so I'm happy."

"It's been a long five or six months," De Bruyne tells TNT Sports.

I think it was complete control by Manchester City. Even when it went to 1-1 and the roof was lifted off the stadium, that didn't bother them. The game is controlled by one person and that is Rodri, he is phenomenal.
