    Nigeria lead at the break!

As we might have expected, that was an absorbing first half, albeit lacking cohesion and ruthlessness from both sides when they were in dangerous areas.

Enter Ademola Lookman, scoring his third goal of the knockout stage courtesy of Moses Simon's perceptive pass during a rare instance of Angola's defence leaving too much space inside their box.

The Super Eagles are the new tournament favourites but their opponents have looked confident and created occasional danger.

They'll fancy their chances of hitting back after the break.

Victor Osimhen and Jonathan Buatu are back up and ready to continue after that collision, thankfully.

    Nigeria 1-0 Angola

There's a clash of heads between Victor Osimhen and Jonathan Buatu, both requiring treatment.

William Troost-Ekong was visibly unimpressed with Nigeria's defending just beforehand after heading clear a Gilberto cross.

There will be three minutes of added time.

    Nigeria 1-0 Angola

Angola don't look unduly perturbed by going behind, attacking down the right again without being able to create anything.

Fredy goes down after being caught on the calf by Calvin Bassey.

    Ademola Lookman does it again!

The Nigeria fans in the stands are jumping for joy after Moses Simon escapes down the left and supplies a low cross to the man who scored twice in their round of 16 tie against Cameroon.

Lookman takes advantage emphatically, smashing his side ahead from close range.

    Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Gilberto wins a corner down his right-hand side, which Fredy curls towards the near post, as he did for Angola's best chance so far.

The referee has a word with Frank Onyeka - presumably about jostling inside the box - and Gilberto heads Fredy's delivery wide.

    Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Angola full-back To Carneiro tries to go on a run down the left but Ademola Lookman prevents him from doing so.

Ola Aina then launches another one of those tricep-testingly long throws into the Angola penalty area, where Victor Osimhen can only glance it on tamely and behind.

    Nigeria 0-0 Angola

With the cooling break over, Nigeria again try to pick the lock of their opponents' defence.

Moses Simon, Ola Aina and Victor Osimhen combine. Ademola Lookman chooses the wrong pass and Semi Ajayi commits a foul.

Kialonda Gaspar takes a whack to the head as Angola block efforts in quick succession from Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi.

A cooling break is called. Well deserved after an intense start in sweltering heat.

    Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Angola look confident but their crossing is still leaving something to be desired.

Frank Onyeka concedes a free-kick in a central position not far from the penalty area, shoving Fredy over.

Fredy's delivery from the set piece is too long, allowing Stanley Nwabali to leap and gather - but the goalkeeper then bowls the ball out too quickly and Angola regain possession, only for Gilberto to send a centre beyond everyone from the right.

    Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Two successive decent attacks for Angola on the left.

Dangerman Gelson Dala tries to spin in a cross on the turn from the latter opportunity, creating little danger.

    Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Nigeria haven't quite looked in-sync when they've advanced into promising areas, but now Victor Osimhen guides in an accurate effort.

The talisman zips a header towards goal, ghosting in front of his markers to meet Moses Simon's cross from the right. It's straight at Dominique, and the goalkeeper holds.

The game has settled into a pattern that sees Nigeria bossing the ball and Angola sitting deep and looking to hit on the counter.

I’m not convinced the pace of the game will be electric, despite the rhythmic drumming reverberating around the stadium – it is very humid and I am sweating just sitting down.

Despite that, Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro refuses to remove the smart jacket he is wearing with jeans, although he does have to keep popping back to the dugout to mop his brow with a towel.

This is the cauldron of the Afcon quarter-finals.

    Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Angola try to build an attack down the right. Calvin Bassey snuffs out the danger.

A minute earlier, Victor Osimhen couldn't get hold of an Alex Iwobi pass and went down clutching his ankle after appearing to have it trodden on by Manuel Cafumana.

Nigeria have looked the more likely to score since Mabululu's early close-range effort was smartly saved by Super Eagles keeper Stanley Nwabali.

That remains the only attempt on target.

  16. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Victor Osimhen gets on the ball deep inside Angola territory on the left, Nigeria eventually winning a throw-in.

Osimhen then loops a header towards goal under pressure, clearing the crossbar comfortably - although goalkeeper Antonio Dominique backtracked to make sure.

Ola Aina launches a long throw into the penalty area. Angola clear and launch an imprecise counter-attack, Calvin Bassey dealing with the danger.

Moses Simon is brought down in a useful position on the right, but Nigeria can't capitalise as Angola clear Ademola Lookman's free-kick delivery comfortably.

A reminder: Angola have never reached the semi-finals of the Afcon finals.

Nigeria, meanwhile, have won the competition three times - with the most recent of those triumphs in 2013.

It has to be said, the attendance here is a little underwhelming for what has the makings of a cracking tie.

The Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium is not even half-full for a promising encounter that pits the tournament’s meanest defence against an Angolan side who have scored the joint-most goals.

Both sets of supporters appear evenly matched - there are just as many Angolans as Nigerians.

Angola’s players recognised the support by coming over en masse after the anthems to applaud their loyal followers, who are making quite a racket in front of me.
