As Willie Collum raced to Scott Brown, brandishing a yellow card, we all began to wonder if we had inadvertently travelled back in time.
Ayr's manager is increasingly nipping away at the officials after being the picture of calm before the break.
His side are very much in this. They have come out with real purpose. Time for calm heads as the opportunity remains to do something in this game.

Imagine a red card getting shown to Scott Brown.
The roof would come off in here.

The Sportsound pundits have a right good view of Ayr boss Scott Brown.
They keep saying how much he's yapping away at the officials, kicking every ball, and that's resulted in a yellow card.

You've got to score when you get those chances.
I guarantee when that falls to him he's already thinking: 'I'm away celebrating'.
Got to hit the target.

Oh my. Ben Dempsey, you have to score.
At the very least, the Ayr man needs to hit the target as a corner finds him free as a bird.
But he volleys wide horribly.

If Rangers get the second goal, that'll kill the game.
But while there's still only one goal between them, Ayr are still in this.

Horn proud of Rose 'character and bravery'
FT: Aberdeen 2-0 Bonnyrigg Rose
Bonnyrigg Rose manager Robbie Horn has spoken of his "pride" for both his players and supporters following his side's exit from the Scottish Cup after suffering defeat to Premiership outfit Aberdeen.
"I’m incredibly proud. I thought it was a fantastic team effort," Horn told BBC Scotland.
"I thought in the first half we created opportunities and, on another day, we might have scored and made things a bit more interesting. Credit to them, [Bojan] Miovski is obviously a top quality player and gets a couple of goals – he always looked a threat all day.
"We had a belief in the second half we could have nicked a goal. At 2-1, it would have put pressure on them and made it nervy for them. All the best to Aberdeen in the next round but I’m over the moon with my team’s performance.
"I'm incredibly proud as the manager. The performance of the players, the ovation from the Bonnyrigg supporters and then to be clapped off by Aberdeen supporters was very special. It shows that the team put so much into that game, showing character and bravery. We’ve got to take confidence from the performance today."

'It was a good day' - Warnock
FT: Aberdeen 2-0 Bonnyrigg Rose
Aberdeen interim manager Neil Warnock tells BBC Scotland: "I thought the fans were super. It was a cold day but, as I said to the lads, these kind of cup games you’ve just got to get through and into the hat.
"It's a clean sheet and I’ve had a look at some lads I have not seen much of since I’ve been here. There were some hair-raising moments but, overall, I was quite pleased with it.
"I knew we could get Bojan [Miovski] in some good positions and he took his goals well again – he worked his socks off, as did Shayden [Morris]. Little bit stretched in midfield.
"At the back, they kept a clean sheet, and the young goalie [Ross Doohan] did well as well. It was a good day."

Rangers 1-0 Ayr United
Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Ibrox
I think most of us here expected an Ibrox onslaught given the start to this, but Ayr United have shown real resilience.
Robbie Mutch's save just before half time was so crucial. That goes in and you'd think that's that.
Philippe Clement will likely be looking for more after failing to capitalise on a brilliant start.
HALF-TIME Rangers 1-0 Ayr Utd
Borna Barisic's deflected opener splits the sides at Ibrox.
Scott Brown can be chuffed with his players' output though.
They've dug in and impressed on the ball at times.
