Ex-Sheffield Utd captain Nick Montgomery will come up against his former manager at Pittodrie

Both Aberdeen and Hibs have identical records of six wins and eight draws from 24 outings - that's why they're kicking about in the bottom half.

One third of Hibs' victories have come against the Dons, thanks to a couple of 2-0 successes. In between, there was a drab League Cup semi-final, nicked by the 10-man Dons.

Hibs head coach Nick Montgomery played under Neil Warnock for seven years at Sheffield United, so there will be a nice reunion, but that's where pleasantries will end.

Warnock will be hoping it's third time lucky as he seeks a first league win after a narrow defeat at Ibrox and Wednesday's topsy-turvy 3-3 draw at home to Motherwell. Montgomery is without a win in seven league matches, losing five of them.

  2. 'I don't need to tell you' - Rodgers on Abadapublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2024

    Celtic v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been asked again about the continued absence of Liel Abada, the Israel winger rated not mentally ready to play while hostilities continue in his homeland.

"It is clear there is an issue for him mentally in terms of being right to play and being at his very best and it is no fault of his or fault of ours," he tells BBC Scotland.

Asked if it was down to some Celtic fans giving verbal and visual support for Palestine, Rodgers replies: "No - and I wouldn't tell you anyway.

"He is not playing because of conversations we've had. I don't need to tell you, I don't want to tell you, but you see he is not on the team sheet and he's not in the squad."

Asked if the 22-year-old is likely to play again for Celtic, Rodgers adds: "We always have that hope, but first and foremost he as a person is more important than the football."

Celtic have lost twice in the league this season. The champions are unbeaten in their latest nine games in all competitions, winning eight.

    And yet there are grumbles.

Rangers have made up ground to sit level on points with the leaders, so what kind of reaction will Celtic Park produce today?

Kilmarnock have twice bloodied Rodgers' nose since his summer return, one in the league and one in the Viaplay Cup, but both of those upsets came in Ayrshire.

However, Celtic have lost just one of their past 82 home matches against Killie in all competitions (W64 D17), the solitary reverse in that run coming in October 2012.

Last night was... wild. More on that soon.

Does that madness in Kirkcaldy open the door for Partick Thistle?

A win in Inverness today would move them seven points behind Raith and eight off the leaders.

Elsewhere, there's a big one at the foot of the foot of the table as the bottom two, Dunfermline and Arbroath, go at it at Gayfield.

    Scottish Premiership

Aberdeen v Hibernian: Since 2011-12, when they won in both the league and the Scottish Cup, Hibs have been victorious just twice at Pittodrie - in 2020-21 and earlier this season.

Celtic v Kilmarnock: The Ayrshire side's last point at Celtic Park was in the 2017-18 season - when they claimed two draws, sandwiched between a 1-0 victory at Rugby Park.

Dundee v Ross County: The 0-0 draw earlier this season ended a run of four victories for County at Dens Park - including scoring five goals in one win and four in another.

Hearts v Motherwell: The Gorgie side had lost just one of their previous 11 home games against Motherwell before the Fir Park club's 1-0 win at Tynecastle in September.

Livingston v St Mirren: Four of the last five games between the sides at Tony Macaroni Arena have ended 1-1 - and the sides have not been separated by more than one goal at the stadium since 2019.

Celtic will be hoping to end the day with a three-point cushion.

But that ain't gonna be easy against a Kilmarnock side who have lost just once in their last 12 games.

There could be a fair bit of movement mid-table, with just three points splitting Dundee in sixth and Aberdeen in ninth.

And at the bottom, games are running out for Livingston, who need to start making up that six-point gap soon.
