    Coventry 2-0 Maidstone

    Ben Watts
    BBC Radio Kent

This is what you fear for a non-league side against higher tier opposition, going two-down early.

How do they get back in this?

    They need a miracle.

    Maybe second-half?

  2. Five in eight for Simmspublished at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

    Coventry 2-0 Maidstone

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

Coventry have exactly the start they wanted.

It has come the same way as the first goal.

Hard and low across the goalkeeper.

That is now his fifth in eight games.

    Ellis Simms

    Less encouraging signs...

Maidstone stand off their hosts and once again the ball finds dangerman Kasey Palmer, he plays another fine disguised pass behind the defence for the diagonal run of Ellis Simms who keeps his cool to slot an angled effort back across goal and into Lucas Covolan's bottom corner.

    Coventry 1-0 Maidstone

Lamar Reynolds jinks and swerves his way into the box as Maidstone try to mount an immediate response but his cross doesn't fall kindly to a Stones player.

The ball is, however, recycled into the middle from the right and Joel Latibeaudiere produces an important header at the far post to prevent Manny Duku getting on the end of it.

    Encouraging signs.

  5. 'Ruthless finishing'published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

Ruthless finishing from the centre forward and he has made it three in four games.

Maidstone now have to chase the game which will make them more vulnerable.

    Ellis Simms

Maidstone concede possession in their own half, the ball is worked to Kasey Palmer who threads it in between the two centre backs for Ellis Simms to take a touch and prod past the onrushing Lucas Covolan for his seventh goal of the season.

Fairytales distinctly lacking in the Midlands at present.

    Coventry 0-0 Maidstone

Coventry dominated possession in the opening five minutes but Maidstone have managed to work the ball forward and alleviate some of the pressure which was building on them.

That said, Harry Kyprianou concedes the opening corner of the game... which Lucas Covolan claims well from Victor Torp.

  8. Goalkeeper is keypublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

    Coventry 0-0 Maidstone

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a good save, listen they are panicking at the back as Coventry are dominating.

It is a really good save - he was important against Ipswich and he needs to have another big performance tonight.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 4 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Maidstone

What a save from Lucas Covolan, instinctive stop falling to his right after a bouncing ball broke to Haji Wright to hook a left-footed volley at goal from 10 yards out after some, er, nervous, Stones defending.

  10. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Maidstone

Haji Wright, the big American powerhouse forward, drifts out to the Coventry left and whips a cross towards Ellis Simms but Stones defender George Fowler gets the faintest touch to divert the ball meaning Simms can only head the ball away from danger.

The teams are out of the tunnel and the time for talk is over... the build-up to this one has been going on all day, like an old fashioned FA Cup final day.

With all due respect to Coventry, as Mark Robins said before the match, it's a no-win for them, only the staunchest Sky Blues (and maybe a few Gillingham) fans will be hoping for a comfortable home win.

Kick-off is nearly here. Is there any magic left to sprinkle on this magnificent Maidstone cup run?

The next 90 minutes will tell us...

It's a chilly one here but they (Maidstone fans) are thoroughly enjoying themselves here.

I spoke to fans here three hours before kick-off.

One dressed as Harry Potter trying to bring the FA Cup magic.

Whatever happens this is a tremendous achievement and should be a wonderful night.

  15. A trip down memory lane...published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

    Coventry v Maidstone (kick-off 19:45 GMT)

We almost got through a Coventry FA Cup feature without mentioning the soaring Keith Houchen, Gary Mabbutt's knee, and all that...

The Sky Blues finest hour came infront of 96,000 people under the baking sun and the twin towers of the old Wembley Stadium, producing a stunning 3-2 win to upset heavy favourites Tottenham in one of the greatest cup finals of all time.

If you're looking for omens, City fans, then look no further than the fact Sheffield Wednesday were despatched along the way by the Sky Blues that season, just as they were in the last round earlier this month.

Coventry fans will know, however, it's impossible to mention 1987 without referencing their third round defeat at non-league Sutton in 1989, one of the great shocks.

Maidstone, for their part, finished the 1986/87 season in third place in the old Conference. They did eventually earn promotion to the Football League but it came at a great cost as the club was declared bankrupt and forced to fold in 1992.

Local youth side Maidstone Invicta became a 'Phoenix club' and the Stones began a long journey back, starting off in the fourth division of the Kent County League and taking them all the way to the National League, from which they were relegated last season.

Maidstone's Sam Corne celebrates their FA Cup win over StevenageImage source, Getty Images

Maidstone's all-action midfield man Sam Corne has stolen the show in the previous three rounds and takes the captain's armband this evening.

The diminutive 27-year-old - who works as a youth coach by day - netted the equaliser against Barrow and then popped up with winners to see off both Stevenage and Ipswich.

One name likely to feature is Lucas Covolan, United's Brazilian keeper who shone in the win at Ipswich. The 32-year-old has a wandering CV and won two under-20 caps for his country before enjoying spells with Torquay and Port Vale before joining the Stones last summer.

Coventry's Kasey Palmer is back in the team and has been directly involved in five goals in his four FA Cup appearances for City, scoring three and assisting two, and netted at home in both previous rounds this season to see-off Oxford and then Sheffield Wednesday.

Palmer grew up in Catford, 30-miles from Kent's county town of Maidstone, while Coventry’s nine-goal striker Matt Godden is Kent-born and once played for the Stones local rivals Ebbsfleet.

Their teammate Luis Binks will be desperate for a win as he hails from Gillingham, just 10 miles up the road from the Gallagher Stadium, Josh Eccles once had a loan spell with the Gills while and Ben Sheaf is from Eynsford, half an hour up the M20 from Maidstone.

Spare a thought for Maidstone’s on-loan Leicester defender Paul Appiah who misses this tie through suspension.

Club captain Gavin Hoyte, once of Arsenal, is on the bench, with Sam Corne taking the armband. Raphe Brown and Reiss Greenidge come into defence.

Maidstone XI: Covolan; Greenidge, Kyprianou, Fowler, Brown; Bone, Corne, Berkeley-Agyepong; Sole, Reynolds, Duku.

Subs: Hoyte, Ezennolim, Earle, Court, Smith, Gurung, Iandolo
