Well it's been a night of missed opportunities, or so it feels.

On a typically bonkers evening in League One with 14 goals spread across three games, Barnsley conceded in the 98th minute to stay fourth and allow Bolton to go second, instead of taking it themselves.

Northampton allowed a surprise lead to slip to defeat at Peterborough while Cheltenham were pushing for a winner to take survival into their own hands but ended up losing to Charlton.

League Two leaders Mansfield lost to MK Dons but Morecambe and Barrow did actually seize their opportunities to boost their promotion hopes with victories.

Thanks for your company tonight, we'll be back tomorrow night for another instalment of EFL action with a host of eye-catching fixtures in the Championship to look forward to.

Until then, thanks for your company, and enjoy what's left of your evening!

It was a VITAL point at AFC Wimbledon for Grimsby who moved seven points clear of the drop zone.

Winning their game in hand at bottom side Sutton on Saturday could see them move to within three points off Doncaster and Salford.

The gap is beginning to open.

It was a chastening evening for leaders Mansfield.

Their defeat to MK Dons means they are three points clear of Stockport but perhaps crucially have played a game more.

The Dons, meanwhile, are stronger in fifth, while Morecambe, after their win over Crawley, are level on points with Walsall in the final play-off spot. Barrow are sixth after their win over Gillingham, who are ninth in a congested table.

There was a priceless win for Charlton who are now seven points clear of the drop-zone in 14th - too good for this graphic now.

On his emotional return to the club where he scored 66 times before moving to The Valley last summer, Alfie May bagged the late third to keep his old side Cheltenham four points from safety, albeit with a game in hand.

Leaders Portsmouth will have been loving every minute of seeing some of their closest challengers tearing strips off one another before having to settle for a point apiece.

The Blues are six points clear with Bolton now second, a point ahead of Derby. Barnsley can jump two places and claim second spot on goal difference if they can win their game in hand, while Peterborough are going nowhere and look set to be firmly in the mix too.

What a run-in this is set to be.

    • Tykes stay fourth but could jump into second by winning game in hand
    • Peterborough are fifth but five points outside automatic promotion places with a game in hand of their own after beating Northampton 5-1
    • Cobblers stay 12th but now only two places ahead of Charlton, 3-1 winners at Cheltenham
    • Robins are fourth-bottom and four points from safety, with a game in hand, after late defeat

    • The race for automatic promotion has got spicier as league leaders Mansfield surrender an early lead to lose 2-1 against fifth-placed MK Dons. Five points (yes, FIVE) now separate the top five teams.
    • Elsewhere Barrow climb to sixth with a convincing win over play-off rivals Gillingham. Goals from James Chester, and a stunning Emile Acquah curler sends the away fans home on their 350-mile journey with nothing.
    • Late goals in both halves was the story at a sodden Valley Parade as Bradford drew 1-1 with Doncaster courtesy of a late equaliser from Tyler Smith.
    • Jordan Slew gave Morecambe the win against Crawley, a result which lifts them to eighth in the league.
    • AFC Wimbledon and Grimsby played out a tame 0-0 draw in south west London.

In summary: it's a wee bit busy around the play-offs, and it's worth stocking up on the popcorn.

    Barnsley 2-2 Bolton

Bolton have salvaged a priceless point at Oakwell to move above Derby and into the automatic promotion places.

John McAtee and Donovan Pines had Barnsley in charge but the Trotters produced a stunning final half-hour to snatch a point and might have won it, in truth.

Randell Williams' 98th minute equaliser after Josh Sheehan's penalty was saved will surely find its way into Bolton folklore if they are able to secure promotion this season.

    Morecambe 1-0 Crawley

Jordan Slew's second half strike has kept Morecambe very much in the hunt for the play-offs. They are level on points with seventh-place Walsall after a win over Crawley.

  10. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March

    AFC Wimbledon 0-0 Grimsby

A relatively tame affair sees both sides share the spoils.

Grimsby will no doubt be the happier of the two as they continue their push to get away from the drop zone.

AFC Wimbledon will rue missed opportunities as their own push for the play-offs takes a hit.

    Bradford 1-1 Doncaster

Doncaster thought they had earned three crucial points at Bradford as they look to extend the gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

But Luke Molyneux's opener was cancelled out by Tyler Smith late on.

    Mansfield 1-2 MK Dons

The leaders fall at home for just the second time this season.

Having taken the lead through Stephen Quinn, they were pegged back a few minutes later by Alex Gilbey's leveller. Matthew Dennis' curling effort won it in the second half.

    Football.

Cameron Jerome wins a penalty in the final minute of eight added on, Josh Sheehan sees his effort saved by Reds keeper Liam Roberts but Randell Williams is following-up to slam home the leveller and spark wild celebrations.

A massive goal in the promotion picture. Bolton are into the top-two.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:45 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March

    Barrow 2-0 Gillingham

An excellent performance from Barrow who showed up when they needed too.

The first half goal from James Chester would have been enough, but Emile Acquah lit up the Holker Street stadium with a sumptuous curling effort from outside the box.

Barrow rise to sixth in the League Two table.

    Peterborough 5-1 Northampton

Northampton going 1-0 up after nine minutes seems a very long time ago.

Darren Ferguson's Posh were rampant and might have had several more goals, however the three points are what matter most and they have taken Peterborough within five points of the automatic promotion places - with a game in hand.

    Cheltenham 1-3 Charlton

A priceless win for Charlton who are seven points clear of the drop-zone.

Daniel Kanu's opener was cancelled out by Liam Sercombe 20 minutes from time but as Town tried to win it, the Addicks sucker-punched them with two in the final four minutes from Tyreeq Bakinson and that man Alfie May.

Athletic are 14th, Nathan Jones has a first career win over Cheltenham, who remain firmly in the mire.

    Barnsley 2-1 Bolton

Bolton are not going quietly into this good night.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has hit the upright from close range after Cameron Jerome's dangerous cross and Liam Roberts is to the rescue with a big save to deny sub Paris Maghoma too.

Eight minutes of stoppage time are not proving fun for Tykes fans.

    Barrow 2-0 Gillingham

Three successive corners for the away side as Gillingham ramp up the late pressure.

Barrow scramble to clear their lines and the keeper Farman manages to puch the final attempt clear.

BIG result for Barrow if the score stays the same.

    Mansfield 1-2 MK Dons

Not many sides can go away to the league leaders and get anything, let alone three points.

Mansfield have been their own worst enemy giving away silly fouls in key areas.
