    FT: Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

It's the old saying 'you can only play what is in front of you.'

Going into the game we thought the fact that they had walked through their group so easily in qualifying that they would put us after severe pressure, but we dealt with anything they threw at us and scored the best goal of the game.

  5. 'Positive result' for Northern Irelandpublished at 21:50 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    FT: Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

    Jim Magilton
Former Northern Ireland midfielder on BBC Sport NI

It's a positive result built on another positive result in the last game.

It's all part of the learning curve and if you look at the first half performance and the counter attacking style, it worked wonders for them.

Elsewhere this evening, Northern Ireland's next opponents Scotland were beaten 4-0 by the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

Tijjani Reijnders smashed the Dutch in front before the break, but Scotland had chances and hit the woodwork twice.

    FT: Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

I think it's a great learning experience for all of them and the fact they were able to see the game out and not concede any goals late on is a huge learning point for them.

    FT: Northern Ireland 1-1 Romania

    Andy Gray
    BBC Sport NI

Overall, that was a pretty good showing from Northern Ireland, who were solid in defence and looked dangerous on the counter attack.

After defeating Denmark in November, that's another bit of momentum in Northern Ireland's favour as Michael O'Neill builds for the future.

Remember, the average age of the starting team was just 23.5. The future is looking bright.

Now, it's onto Scotland at Hampden Park.

  9. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

It ends in a draw at Bucharest, a fair result after a below par second half.

Jamie Reid opened the scoring early for Northern Ireland on his debut in the first half, before Dennis Man replied with an equaliser for Romania.

Neither side created much in the second half, but Northern Ireland will be pleased with the result considering the young side they put out and the good run of form Romania are on.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:38 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

Substitute Deian Sorescu picks up a yellow card for a late challenge on Conor McMenamin. It didn't look like a good challenge.

There will be four minutes of additional time, can either side find a late winner?

  12. 'Conor Bradley reminds me a lot of Jonny Evans'published at 21:36 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

Conor Bradley reminds me a lot of Jonny Evans.

Evans makes it look so easy as he anticipates the danger and is there, there is no last ditch challenges from him as he reads the game so well and Bradley has that as part of his game as well.

Radu Drăgușin floats an aimless ball out of play. That sums up the lack of quality in the second half, particularly from the home side.

  14. 'The result will mean more to Northern Ireland'published at 21:32 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

When you look at the two teams, them going to the Euros and us starting over again and building a new team, the result will mean more to us that it will to them.

  15. Postpublished at 21:31 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

Ianis Hagi tries his luck from range, but it is a comfortable take for Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who hasn't really been tested in this second half.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:28 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March

    Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

Paddy McNair is over zealous in his attempts to win the ball up against George Puşcaş and he receives a yellow card.

Despite it being a friendly this has been a feisty affair.

  17. CLOSE!published at 21:25 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March
