Carlisle could have been relegated today and results at one stage of this afternoon had them dropping back into League Two next season.

Burton's loss gave Paul Simpson's men a reprieve, but it surely will not be long before the dreaded "R" is placed next to their name in the table.

In fact, the bottom five clubs in League One all lost today, while Cambridge got a very important win to move six points above the relegation zone.

Aaron Collins claimed the match ball for only the second time in his career and it means Bolton are breathing right down the necks of the top two once again.

Collins' hat-trick at the Toughsheet Community Stadium guided Wanderers to a 5-2 win against Reading, which leaves them just three points behind Derby, who take on Portsmouth tomorrow.

Most of the play-off challengers did exactly what they needed to, with Peterborough triumphing 2-1 at Leyton Orient to stay fourth ahead of Barnsley, who overturned a half-time deficit at Burton to win 3-1.

Only goal difference keeps Lincoln in sixth place after they won 3-1 at Carlisle, with Oxford hot on their heels after thrashing Fleetwood 4-0. Stevenage, however, lost ground as they were held to a scoreless draw at Charlton.

People said it was all over. They thought they were gone. But four straight wins have dragged Sutton out of the relegation zone, and Forest Green aren't a million miles away either after a bumper Bank Holiday haul.

Rovers stunned Crewe 3-0, with all three goals coming in the opening 30 minutes, while Sutton were 3-1 winners against Swindon.

Colchester replace Sutton in the drop zone, despite cancelling out an early deficit to draw 1-1 at Tranmere.

Grimsby led 1-0 until stoppage time against Bradford in the early kick-off but were stung by a last-gasp penalty and are only a point ahead of Sutton, though the Mariners, like Colchester, have games in hand.

Salford's defeat by Walsall sees them nine points clear of the bottom two, the same as Swindon.

In League Two, Stockport extended their narrow lead at the top thanks to their late win over AFC Wimbledon.

Despite fourth-placed MK Dons dropping points this afternoon, Mansfield and Wrexham still have work to do to lock down automatic promotion.

Crawley are into the final play-off spot thanks to their 4-0 win at Newport.

• Odin Bailey’s late goal ensured leaders Stockport overcame AFC Wimbledon to pull four points clear of the chasing pack. Closest rivals Mansfield saw their game postponed and third-placed Wrexham play Doncaster tomorrow.
• MK Dons drew a see-saw game 3-3 at Notts County and missed the chance to go level on points with the two sides above them, albeit having played two more games.
• Barrow lost 2-1 at play-off chasing Morecambe to slip six points adrift of the automatic promotion places while Crewe remain a point back in sixth after a stunning 3-0 home defeat by bottom club Forest Green.
• Rovers remain three points adrift of Sutton, who moved out of the relegation zone with a 3-1 home win over Swindon. Colchester replaced them in the bottom two, despite coming from behind to draw 1-1 at Tranmere.
• Grimsby are a point ahead of Sutton after being denied by a stoppage-time equaliser in the early game against Bradford, while Swindon and Salford, who lost 2-1 to play-off chasing Walsall, saw their cushion to the drop zone cut to nine points.
• In the play-off race, Gillingham led 1-0 at Harrogate but a Matty Daly double helped Town turn it around on their way to a 5-1 win and allow Crawley to go seventh after a 4-0 romp at Newport. Morecambe are two points behind in eighth with 12th-placed Harrogate only four points outside the top seven themselves.

• The Tykes, Peterborough and Bolton, for whom Aaron Collins scored a hat-trick against Reading, all won to keep the pressure on Portsmouth and Derby. The top two play each other on Tuesday.
• Oxford remain just outside the play-off spots despite thrashing lowly Fleetwood, who stay second from bottom of the table.
• Cambridge beat Wigan to move six points clear of the relegation zone, but the survival hopes of Port Vale and Cheltenham were dented by defeats.

League Two leaders Stockport left it late to claim all three points and extend their narrow lead at the top of the division.

Wimbledon miss out on an opportunity to enter the play-off places and drop down to 10th.

Ben House, Joe Taylor and Teddy Bishop were all on the scoresheet for the Imps, with Sam Lavelle scoring for the home side.

Carlisle's relegation is not confirmed yet - but surely will be soon.

Cheltenham led 1-0 against Exeter in the second half, but now they trail in the dying moments, Reece Cole converting from the spot to put the Grecians 2-1 up in the final minute.

That means the bottom five are ALL losing.
