In the battle of the Big Cats on Wearside today, the Lions of Millwall ALMOST safe - a result today should do it and if it does happen, that away end will be the place to be at full-time!

Already safe Sunderland’s season summed up by an exchange I had with a fan downstairs. Telling him it’s my final Black Cats game of the season, he replied, "Lucky you".

Some revenge by soaking on a sunny day in south Wales.

Southampton manager Russell Martin goes over to salute the Saints fans and Cardiff City's groundstaff literally turned the sprinklers on him!

Martin saw the funny side. Win the double, double in south Wales derbies, get soaked, I guess.

Norwich City v Bristol City (15:00 BST)

    Marc Webber
    Final Score at Carrow Road

If you stopped watching Norwich after their Guy Fawkes Day damp squib defeat by Blackburn, you wouldn’t recognise the Norwich of now.

"Off with his head" was the cry from the home crowd David Wagner after that game.

But - unlike Fawkes - Wagner has delivered a revolution and turned around the Canaries to the point where they could overtake West Brom in the play-off positions tonight.

The Carrow Road attendees do have to take some credit for the home unbeaten streak since November -they decided to back the team, if not the manager, and the atmosphere has re-energised them.

You would expect more of the same against a Bristol City side with nothing to play for today.

But the Robins are not on the beach and this game will add to Liam Manning’s learning for next season.

Russell Martin says this is Southampton’s biggest game of the season.

He also says beware the team with nothing left to play for – Cardiff can play with freedom. I’ve just spoken to an upbeat former Bluebird, Nathan Blake. Bouncing into Cardiff City stadium – “I fancy us,” he says.

Lots of the home fans calling for the youngsters to be given a go today; they’d love a result against Russell Martin in particular.

His track record as Swansea boss means he is very much the pantomime villain in these parts. Expecting a frosty reception in sunny south Wales.

  8. Bolton fans 'resigned to play-offs'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 20 April

Bolton v Port Vale (15:00 BST)

    Adam Cottier
BBC Final Score at the Toughsheet Stadium

Even though Bolton remain in contention from automatic promotion from League One, their fans appear resigned to the play-offs.

Those I’ve spoken to, including my cousin Lewis, are aware too many draws in recent times have cost them dearly.

He’s playing in a play-off semi-final himself today for Atherton LR down the road from here, hoping to add to his 30-odd goals this season! Good luck, Lewis!

Port Vale travel north hoping they can cling to their survival hopes with Darren Moore in charge, almost a year after he won promotion with from this division with Sheffield Wednesday.

Sutton United v Crawley Town (15:00 BST)

Sutton United’s Football League status is on the line.

They’ll be down if they lose to Crawley, but even a win might not be enough to keep them up today.

Sutton have vastly improved in recent months under ex-Cardiff boss Steve Morison, but it’s still a big ask to execute an escape plan from here.

Crawley were fighting for their own survival only 12 months ago, but they’re now chasing an unexpected play-off place and are bringing more than 1,000 fans to south London.

Notts County v Colchester (15:00 BST)

    Alastair Yeomans
    Final Score at Meadow Lane

A win for Colchester guarantees their Football League status for another year.

Notts County are safe but have conceded 85 goals this season, the worst record in the division.

A gusty wind is whistling across Meadow Lane.

It could be chaotic down there from three o’clock.

A final home game of the season for Grimsby Town, but a final home game full stop (as a commentator at least) for BBC Radio Humberside’s John Tondeur. It started with Leeds away in 1984, and in 40 years he’s seen more downs than ups but today against Swindon shouldn’t be one of them. He recalls cup wins over Liverpool and Spurs as the highlights. As for this season, it’s been a "big disappointment, where the Mariners have recruited better players but got a worse team". A stalwart of the BBC local radio scene. We doff our woolly hats to him.

  12. Sutton sliding awaypublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 20 April

    Sutton v Crawley (15:00 BST)

It could also be a terminal day for Sutton's three-year stay in the EFL.

They host play-off chasing Crawley in south London and must better the result of Colchester at Notts County to stay alive for the final weekend.

Three wins on the spin had given Sutton late hope of staying up but a point from their last two games leaves them facing the drop once more.

  13. Fleetwood and Vale clinging onpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 20 April

Leyton Orient v Fleetwood, Bolton v Port Vale (15:00 BST)

Fleetwood and Port Vale could both be relegated from League One this afternoon.

Fleetwood must beat 10th-placed Leyton Orient to have any chance of survival.

But if Burton get even a point at home to Reading or Cheltenham beat Lincoln in Gloucestershire, Fleetwood are down regardless of their result.

Vale will also be gone if they fail to match Burton's result in their game at Bolton.

  14. Rams charging backpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 20 April

    Cambridge v Derby (15:00 BST)

After four rather depressing seasons, Derby supporters finally have a campaign to remember again.

And today could be the day that seals their return to the Championship after two campaigns in League One.

They start the afternoon second in the table, three points and five goals better off than Bolton in third.

So if they better Wanderers’ result at home to Port Vale, promotion will be secured.

  16. Can Lions take safety and Hull continue play-off fight?published at 14:44 British Summer Time 20 April

Sunderland v Millwall; Watford v Hull City

Sunderland welcome Millwall having strung together a three-game unbeaten run and take on a Lions side who must feel they have done enough to stay up this season.

Their visitors have won two on the bounce and are six points off the bottom three with three games of the campaign remaining.

Can they end the day knowing they will be playing Championship football next season?

Meanwhile, out-of-form Watford welcome Hull hoping to end a run of five games without a win - with four draws and a loss during that period.

The Tigers travel south with a game in hand on sixth-placed Norwich and know that victory will keep their faint play-off hopes alive.

Neil Dewsnip (right) has been in temporary charge at Home Park since Ian Foster (left) was sacked at the start of this month

Plymouth are without a head coach after sacking Ian Foster earlier this month but the search to replace him won't begin until after their fate is sealed.

Argyle are four points off the Championship drop zone with three games remaining having turned their form around under director of football Neil Dewsnip and coach Kevin Nancekivell.

They travel to fellow relegation candidates Stoke today to face off against former manager Steven Schumacher's side hoping to add to their three-game unbeaten run.

"The focus is very much safety as fast as we possibly can, and then we'll start that search," Dewsnip told BBC Radio Devon.

"We need to get safe as quick as we can and then we can move on and all those aspects - contract negotiations, new signings, staffing, the whole lot, and not least of all a new head coach."

Steve Evans celebratesImage source, Getty Images

It was a day of rapid change at recently relegated Rotherham earlier this week.

Out goes Leam Richardson, who oversaw the Millers' relegation to League One, and in came a return for Steve Evans.

The Scot departed his role at Stevenage for a second spell with Rotherham, who take on a Birmingham side in desperate need of avoiding the same fate today.

Evans has pledged to bring the good times back to the club, however.

"It's been a really depressing season for everyone associated with the club," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"To say the fans have got frustrated is totally understandable. They won't be frustrated from now on - our job is to win matches."

  19. Norwich target a season extensionpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 20 April

Norwich v Bristol City (15:00 BST)

Norwich haven't quite wrapped up the final Championship play-off spot, at least mathematically, with seventh-placed Hull having a game in hand on them.

But their six-point cushion with three of their own games to go has given them some comfort.

Bristol City travel to Carrow Road with a decent record of late, however.

The Robins have strung together a five-game unbeaten run with three wins during that period to hover around midtable at the end of the season.

Can Norwich take a big step towards extending their season today?

  20. Huddersfield hover around the drop zonepublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 20 April

    Huddersfield v Swansea (15:00 BST)

The Championship survival race is well and truly on and Huddersfield welcome Swansea today knowing that a victory would go a long way to ensuring second tier football next season.

Andre Breitenreiter's side have won just once in their past nine matches and occupy the final relegation place.

They take on a Swans side today who travel to west Yorkshire off the back of two consecutive wins, lifting them to 14th position.
