Here comes Lewis Hamilton for the first time in second practice, intermediate tyres on. He pretty much has the track to himself with most of the other drivers back in their respective garages at the moment.

Nine drivers haven't set timed laps so far, Lewis Hamilton is one of them but it looks like he's decided it is time to make an appearance. He is getting strapped into his Mercedes.

"A few spots of rain here in the pitlane, nothing too dramatic but you can see the clouds scuttling along the sky here. They really move at high speed which is why you can get such different weather."

Chalk and cheese fortunes for the two Red Bull drivers, possibly?

Daniel Ricciardo has just gone second fastest and is just 0.049 off Kimi Raikkonen's benchmark time. Meanwhile, Daniil Kvyat is back in the garage with lots of mechanics inspecting the back of his car.

A first timed lap of the day for Sebastian Vettel, who goes sixth fastest with 1:41.206. That's just under two seconds off the pace of his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, who had just gone fastest.

Any movement in the Mercedes garage? Nope. Lewis Hamilton is chilling, but the track is drying rapidly so that may change soon.

Toro Rosso driver Max Verstappen, speaking to Jennie Gow: "It is a bit useless to use the intermediates, so we just have to wait a bit.

"First practice was very tricky. Every time we went out on slick tyres it started to rain. We got some basic things done."

Fernando Alonso is straight into P1 with his flying lap - a 1:40.762. In total, eight drivers have got at least one timed lap under their belts.

The sun is out now and track looks to be drying quickly. This is Melbourne, though, things can change in an instant.

"If it remains wet for the rest of the session, Nico Rosberg will be quite content but if we get some dry running then he will really feel he has missed out."
