Rain to stay away?published at 07:28 British Summer Time 16 April 2016
07:28 BST 16 April 2016Early forecasts suggested we would be in for a wet qualifying today, and a stormy start to the day in Shanghai backed that up.
However, it now looks like the rain clouds may stay away...

07:26 BST 16 April 2016Could this be Ferrari's weekend? Kimi Raikkonen was fastest in practice yesterday, while Sebastian Vettel topped the times in the wet today. Mercedes, though, didn't bother setting a lap time in final practice.

07:15 BST 16 April 2016There were no cars on the track for the first 20 minutes or so of final practice because of the weather, so we had to entertain ourselves for a bit. Thankfully, this boyband pose by Toro Rosso and Red Bull helped with that.

07:11 BST 16 April 2016The forecast is for wet qualifying, but it is looking pretty dry at the track at the moment. You could have sailed to the circuit with the amount of rain that fell before final practice.

Chief F1 writer"Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel set the pace in a wet final practice session.
"The German was 0.710 seconds quicker than Williams driver Valtteri Bottas as neither Mercedes driver set a lap time in order to conserve tyres.
"Only 14 drivers set times as the number of wet-weather tyres is limited and teams were saving them for qualifying."

07:04 BST 16 April 2016Hello and welcome to our coverage of qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix!
An old friend returns today - the 2015 qualifying format.
Some would say it should never have gone away, but F1 bosses were keen to find a way of mixing up the grid.
Today, the weather might just do that for them.
Back to the futurepublished at 07:00
07:00It came, it was farcical, it went, it came back and was farcical once more.
Yep, I'm talking about the ill-fated elimination qualifying format.
We had it in Australia and we had it in Bahrain but for today's Chinese Grand Prix qualifying we're going back to the future.
Rules? Where we are going we don't need convoluted rules...

BBC Radio 5 live commentator"There's no rain. It is drying out but it is quite overcast. We didn't learn anything meaningful. I have always been a fan of two-day gp weekends because it throws an element of the unkown into qualifying. Hopefully that is what we will get today."
