Marcus Ericsson hasn't had any running today because of technical problems but it looks like he might just squeeze in some time on the track.

As he prepares to head out, pretty much everyone else makes their way back in.

"We thought for a second Mercedes were going to do some more running, Nico Rosberg got back in his car but then got back out again.

"It is going to be interesting this afternoon. If it is wet at the start of the session, Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton will be going out on tyres they have not experienced in Shanghai."

Not many laps done today, unsurprisingly.

Max Verstappen has completed the most with six. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have been out for just the one lap and, as Tom Clarkson observed earlier, they don't look in any particular rush to get back out there before time is up.

Inters now largely the tyre of choice with the track continuing to dry as we enter the final 10 minutes of the session.

"I don't think either of Mercedes will be going out on inters. Both drivers are out of their cars, there is no stress, they don't even feel they need to set a time on the tyre, they'd rather have those four fresh sets if it is still raining this afternoon. Supreme confidence."

Maybe not too much of an issue for Sebastian Vettel as he goes quickest with 1:57.351. That's on the inters and is two seconds quicker than Carlos Sainz's time on full wets.

Ferrari have had a couple of niggly reliability issues so far this season, could there be another problem today?

Sebastian Vettel emerges for the first time on intermediates and reports having a couple of issues with getting stuck in first gear.

Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz goes fastest with 1:59.865.

There's no more rain and the track is getting drier. Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat have slapped on a set of inters.

Kvyat is initially struggling to get comfy with his new boots on, running wide at the final corner on his out lap.

    Twenty minutes to go.

A problem for Jolyon Palmer, it looks like he's suffered a puncture on his right rear and he limps back to the pits.

Meanwhile, Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen go third and fourth quickest with 2:02.438 and 2:02.903 respectively.
