  7. Rosberg called to the stewards?published at 14:49 British Summer Time 9 July 2016

Motorsport.com are reporting that Nico Rosberg has been called in to face the stewards, and could face a penalty., external

Apparently it's because Rosberg exceeded "the maximum time set by the FIA between the Safety Car line after the pit exit and Safety Car line before the pit entry at 13.05", according to a snappily worded FIA statement.

  8. 'Fantastic from both guys'published at 14:43 British Summer Time 9 July 2016

Red Bull boss Christian Horner tells Sky Sports: "We knew we were in good shape so for both cars to be on the second row is good and hopefully we can give Ferrari a hard time tomorrow.

"It is the first time Max has out-qualified Daniel so he will take confidence in that. Max nailed it and did the job required, but it was a fantastic performance from both guys to have a second-row lock out.

"We are 24 points behind Ferrari and if we can nick a few points here there are a few tracks coming up that are going to be good for us. This demonstrates the progress we are making and testimony to all the good work that is coming out."

After finishing in P6, Sebastian Vettel will line up 11th on the grid after a five-place grid penalty for changing his gearbox for the second weekend in the row.

"It wasn't bad. It was better than we expected after a difficult practice," he tells Sky Sports.

"If we knew the problem with the gearbox would turn it off. We had an issue yesterday and an issue this morning. It's not good. We have to try and understand what has changed."

There's a mass exodus at Silverstone, presumably to beat the traffic, or the queues for a beer at the F1 village.

Lewis Hamilton may have his critics, but there's no mistaking who the fans want to win here.

There were huge cheers as he secured that pole and there was excited chatter from those leaving the grandstands about the possibility of seeing another British win at Silverstone.

"I've been a bit unlucky the last few qualifyings. Today was a very good qualifying.

"The car performed as it should be. We are strong compared to cars behind us. It seemed like the Mercedes had a turbo button."

Nico Rosberg is asked if the air is clear between him and Lewis Hamilton after that collision in Austria.

    "Very clear."

    Well I'm convinced.

    Anyway, what about qualifying?

"They've given us an incredible car, a pleasure to drive, particularly through the high-speed corners. It just wasn't the best day out there for me. Congrats to Lewis."

Lewis Hamilton, who claimed a dramatic pole position, says: "I want to say how amazing it is and how grateful I am for all the fans that are here this week. From Thursday to today it's the biggest crowd I've seen and the energy they send is amazing.

"It was not the cleanest qualifying session. We had really good pace in Q1, ran wide in Q3 then had good pace on the penultimate lap, but I touched the kerb and it pulled me further, the car bottomed and just bounced outside.

"I was sitting in the garage and knew I couldn't let the guys down and I'm grateful I got the final lap in. Thank you to my team to have the performance we have had - it has been outstanding."
