Donna Burgoyne: Let's hope that Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg don't take each other out at the first turn.
And off go the cars on the formation lap. Everyone gets away without a hitch.
Everyone has super-softs on for the race start apart from Esteban Gutierrez. He's got softs on his Haas.
Chin up, Daniil. Rubens Barrichello won this race from the position you are in - 18th - back in 2000.
Never say never.

Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat was a lonely, haunted figure after qualifying here, after being knocked out in first qualifying, in which he was half a second down on team-mate Carlos Sainz. Two and a half months since being demoted from Red Bull, he sounded like a broken man.
“I don't feel great,” he said. “It is not a good period for me. It seems like it is never-ending. I am trying every weekend so much but nothing is working so far, so it needs to be more than that. I am not having the most pleasant time for sure, it is not easy. But it is not an excuse. Everyone has hard times and if you doing nothing about it, you just die. I don't know what I need. I don't know. I just need the feeling in the car to be much better. I cannot remember the last time I had a good feeling with any car, so I don't know what is going on.”
In the context of Red Bull’s ruthless motorsport programme, Kvyat’s time in F1 is fast running out at this rate. If he survives the summer break and is not replaced by GP2 front-runner Pierre Gasly - the next cab off the Red Bull rank - he needs his form to turn around. And fast.”

Will we see any drama here at the start of the race?

Lewis Hamilton has overcome a great number of points deficit and has taken the lead for the first time this season, while Nico Rosberg has lost that lead and will be trying to regain that momentum. He has started by taking a very good pole position.
I would never underestimate Hamilton into that turn one but both he and Rosberg have had bad starts at times so that would be a chink of hope for the Red Bulls.
Two-time Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi is at Hockenheim ready to enjoy the action.

Both Renault drivers are racing for their Formula 1 future at the moment, with speculation raging about who will drive for the team in 2017. So Jolyon Palmer has picked a good time to start showing good form and impressing the team. The Englishman starts 14th and has out-qualified team-mate Kevin Magnussen now for two races in a row. As for 2017, Force India’s Sergio Perez is talking to Renault and Williams, the latter considered his most likely destination if in fact he can actually get out of what some say is a locked-on contract with his current team.
Renault reserve driver Esteban Ocon is expected to get one of the seats at the French team and the other will depend on how the market shakes out. McLaren reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne has an offer from Renault but is not in a position to take it as McLaren have him under option until later in the year - and are expected to promote him alongside Fernando Alonso anyway.
Jenson Button has been linked to Williams, but there is even talk their young, rich Canadian development driver Lance Stroll could be promoted straight from Formula Three. Felipe Massa is almost certain to be dropped but even Valtteri Bottas might not stay either. The Finn could potentially go to Renault or Force India depending on how other things shake out. It’s quite a fluid situation.”
Lewis Hamilton is in the zone. He's got his headphones on and is fully focused. So focused, in fact, that he almost walks into Daft Punk as the drivers prepare for the formation lap.

Expect most drivers to do two stops this afternoon, most likely two sets of super-softs and one of soft. It’s about 19-20 seconds to make a pit stop and the projected tyre life is 40 on the medium, 30 on the soft and 20 on the super-soft.
