  1. Rosberg becomes world champion

    Ultimately the stats speak for themselves. Nico Rosberg has won nine races this season, and 12 of the 24 since losing out on the 2015 title to Hamilton in Austin.

    To bounce back from that low in such impressive fashion surely means he deserves a world title? 

    He's closed out his wins professionally and produced some brilliant performances along the way. And in today's final race, he kept his nerve when it counted.

  3. Like father, like son

    Nico Rosberg joins his father in winning a world championship after Keke won the title in 1982.

    They join Graham and Damon Hill as the only F1 racing father and sons to win a world title.

  4. 'He's realised a childhood dream'

    Nico Rosberg's wife Vivian on BBC Radio 5 live: "It's just unbelievable - he's dreamt of this since he was a little boy. He's worked so hard and he deserves this.

    "Around 15 of his friends are here and he doesn't know - we're going to have a big, surprise party.

    "Unbelievable, unbelievable. A moment like this is filled with emotions in general.

    More from world champion Nico Rosberg: "I also want to say congrats to Lewis, you did a great season, a great competitor always and it's always tough to beat you.

    "Mercedes, put the music on - I'm coming down in a second."

  7. Third-placed Sebastian Vettel: "It was tough out there in the last couple of laps - I didn't want to be in Nico's shoes. My tyres were going off as well.

    "Once I was in clean air I could unleash the pace in the car today. It feels great to finish on the podium today.

    "It's been a tough year but it's great to finish on a high."

  9. 'Very proud'

    Nico Rosberg, who finished second to win the world title: "Unreal. I am very, very proud. I have done the same feat as my dad achieved. He will be here in half an hour and I am so excited to see him."

  11. 'Big congratulations to Nico'

    Race winner Lewis Hamilton in the podium interviews: "Honestly, I feel great.

    "I want to say thanks to my family for all the support and this team - I think that's 32 wins since I joined this team.

    "And big congratulations to Nico, of course. His first world championship."

    Then there is a slightly awkward handshake between the two Mercedes drivers.

  13. Up they go to the podium. The national anthems are played as Nico Rosberg looks up at the sky. A moment he wants to savour.

  14. Awkward in the pre-podium room. I didn't see Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg speak a word. A top three photo was as close as they got to each other.

    Nico Rosberg is absolutely high on adrenaline at the moment. He strolls into the pre-podium room where F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is sat on a comfy sofa. Rosberg strides up to him and gives him a massive bear hug, lifting him off the ground.
