Huge cheer as Fernando Alonso climbs out of his car. I am absolutely gutted for him. He had the fastest average lap time in the race. Alonso gave it absolutely everything.

    Oh no!!!!

There's smoke coming out of Fernando Alonso's engine! He's out of the Indy 500.

The irony that a Honda engine is his undoing.

Alonso needs a good restart (unlike the last one) and then will need to work some moves if he is going to win.

Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, is seventh. This is going to be a fascinating race to the finish now.

Pit road is open and several drivers head in, race leader James Davison.

Max Chilton manage to get his stop in just before the yellow flag. He's back in the lead and should be able to get to the end of the race without stopping again.

He'll be running on fumes by the end, much like Alexander Rossi was last year when he coasted to victory...
