Harry Cornwell: My first real memory of motorsport was watching Mansell in F1 then head off to Indycar. Fernando has re-ignited my love.

Steven Higgins: Alonso is not going to want to return to F1 after this!

Fewer than 100 miles to go. Pretty much a road trip from Birmingham to London. As it stands, the top 10 looks like this:

    1) Chilton

    2) Davison

    3) Kimball

    4) Castroneves

    5) Hildebrand

    6) Jones

    7) Servia

    8) Alonso

    9) Sato

    10) Kanaan

  5. Postpublished at Lap 160/200

Max Chilton and James Davison are first and second respectively, but they will have to pit again pretty soon.

Helio Castroneves, a three-time Indy 500 winner, is on a charge in third. He's surely a strong contender for victory. He stopped on lap 139.

Nick Huges: F1 is great but there is no substitute for raw speed. That's what makes Indy 500 special & where F1's gone backwards.

Kenny Kong: Hunter-Reay broken down having led the most laps, Alonso could actually win Indy 500 in the McLaren Honda as a rookie...

Ali Bratt: Is it too late to sign up for Le Mans this year if Fernando wins today could complete triple crown this year

  9. Postpublished at Lap 157/200

James Davison stepped in for the injured Sebastien Bourdais and he's going well. Very well. He gets round the outside of Charlie Kimball to move into second place.

  10. Postpublished at Lap 152/200

We've got a British driver leading the Indy 500 because Max Chilton is P1. Fernando Alonso has managed to get up to ninth.

  11. Fifty laps to gopublished at Lap 15/200

My word! Formation driving as five cars run side-by-side down the back stretch. Someone's going to touch, surely? Somehow, no.

  12. Go! Go! Go!published at Lap 148/200

We're back green again. Let's hope we manage to turn more than one corner before the yellows are waved again...

Kenny Kong: At this rate, Alonso will want to stay with #Indy500, external rather than back to an uncompetitive F1 car... Podium and the win in his sights

  15. Another yellow flagpublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    Lap 143/200

This race has had more stops than an American football game...

But we are under yellow flags again.

American Charlie Kimball is leading in front of Britain's Max Chilton.

Alonso who pitted on lap 139 is back in 12th...

Many cars including Fernando Alonso take the opportunity to come into the pits.

The Spaniard comes back out in ninth but Alexander Rossi has had a slow stop due to slow re-fuelling and is going to have to work his way back up from 21st.

  18. yellow flag

Yellow flag...published at 19:55 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    Lap 138/200

Due to RHR having to retire, the yellow flags are out for the sixth time today.

The Honda engine just seemed to give up.

    Familiar...?

  19. Go! Go! Go!published at 19:53 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    Lap 137/200

Once again we restart and Alonso gets us going again.

Hunter-Reay sneaks past him but that lead doesn't last long. Alonso takes it again and then....

Oh no! Hunter-Reay has smoke coming out of his rear!

That's his race over and Alonso's closest rival is out of the Indy 500.

What a shame! That could have been a great battle!
