Better from Lewis Hamilton as, free of traffic, he goes third fastest with 1:05.929, half a second down on Sebastian Vettel.

Pole position for Hamilton today will move him to within one of Michael Schumacher's record of 68 career pole positions, meaning he could equal it at the British Grand Prix.

    Big incentive.

Lots of gasps and cheers from colleagues around me. Has something amazing happened on the track? Nope, they are all engrossed in the rugby.

Sounds like a thrilling encounter between New Zealand and the Lions, so if you want to follow that then head here. but please keep me company. Feel like I am talking in an empty room at the moment...

Raikkonen is not in a position to go out. The whole of the front is off, it looks like they are working on the balance. They must have found a small gremlin in the works.

It's been quite the start to the weekend for Carlos Sainz after he suggested his future was away from Toro Rosso, while Red Bull chiefs insisted he would be at the team next season. He also had a massive off yesterday as well, so this is not the start to the day he will have wanted.

On scamper some marshals to wheel away his Toro Rosso and we're back going again...

Things had gone so well for Honda on Friday, their new-spec engine running well and Fernando Alonso eighth fastest in second practice. Unfortunately, a problem was discovered with the MGU-H in Alonso’s “Phase Three” engine overnight and it has had to be changed - and the new one is the previous “Phase Two” engine. What does that mean? Well, it turns out my initial sources were a little optimistic in claiming a 26bhp power hike for the Phase Three. I am now reliably informed it is more like 10bhp. So, useful but nothing to be excited about - as Alonso has always been saying. The good news, if there is any, is that Alonso won’t be losing out too much by the reversion to the old engine. Team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne still has the new one.
