It was the perfect qualifying lap from Vettel. Just turning the wick up has given him that extra oopmh out of those slow corners.
As an aside, the small matter of seven tenths between Hamilton and Bottas after those first runs, albeit only good enough to put the Briton in fifth place.
Alonso is seventh after those first runs, then it's Vandoorne, Hulkenberg and Sainz.
Ricciardo only third after that first run, then it's Raikkonen and then the two Mercedes cars on row three. You sense that is Mercedes' limit today.
Hold on, Vettel now blasts across the line and does a fastest time by 0.145s, ending some premature cheers in the Red Bull garage!
Verstappen goes quickest with a 1:39.8 - ooof.
A 1:40.069 for Raikkonen to kick things off at the sharp end.
But here comes Hamilton, Verstappen and Vettel...
Rivlud: That was so surprising why Force India didn't make it to Q3, what's going on here? Hoping they improve for the race.
Alex Withington: If you need a better example of how good the McLaren chassis is take a look - both Williams out in Q3, both Force Indias out in Q2.
