A Mercedes in the gravel again. This time it is Lewis Hamilton who, at the exit of Turn 7, loses the rear and slides off the track into the gravel trap.

Valtteri Bottas is skipping across the gravel after running wide coming out of Turn 10.
He went wide as he overtook a Williams in the middle of the track but then got caught out by the kerbs.
I feel a little bit sorry for the Fernando Alonso fan on the right here that doesn't have a letter on her shirt.

Certainly at the moment, Vettel is looking in good shape. It is a while to go yet before Mercedes perhaps show their true form but it's looking like it might be closer than expected.
The times continue to drop as Sebastian Vettel produces the fastest ever lap on the Sepang circuit, moving into P1 with a 1:32.566.
Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, goes fifth quickest, six tenths of a second down on Vettel.

Lewis Hamilton is out on the track so that's everyone having been out for at least a lap.
Pierre Gasly returns to the Toro Rosso garage and as he does so there's lots of smoke coming out the back of his car. Not sure what's happened there.
The track is very busy now with everyone apart from Lewis Hamilton on it. As a result, names are constantly swapping places on the timing screen as the track gets faster and faster.
Kimi Raikkonen does a 1:32.836 to go top before Max Verstappen goes a tenth of a second quicker.
On the subject of circuits, the Chinese Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2020 after a new three-year agreement was announced this morning.

Stewart44forthewin: Yes. It's such a unique circuit of uphill twists & long straights met by a hairpin. Plus the site of rookie podiums.
Most drivers are on the soft tyres and Marcus Ericsson sets the first time of the session on that compound with 1:37.654.
Pierre Gasly, who has replaced Daniil Kvyat for at least this race, made his Toro Rosso debut this morning and finished an impressive ninth quickest.

I am sure Pierre Gasly will be looking forward to getting out on the track in these dry conditions. He did a very good job in first practice in tricky conditions.
Second practice is under way.
Unsurprisingly there are plenty of drivers eager to get out early doors.
The Sepang circuit is like a different venue to the one we are at for first practice a few hours ago.
The rain clouds have cleared and there's even a bit of sunshine as drivers start suiting up for second practice.

Stephen Pritchard: Sepang always a favourite of mine... great first corner, good racing, unpredictable weather. Sad to see it go.
