But just like Fernando Alonso and just like Daniel Ricciardo, Ericsson is out for one lap and that's it, back to the garage.

After Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo comes the Sauber of Marcus Ericsson.

Sauber have tweeted, saying: "the weather still isn't the greatest, but it'll have to do."

  3. Let's try againpublished at 13:05 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

Right, let's see if we can get some cars out there and get back in action.

Hands up, who thought we would have no cars out there today?

  4. Ricciardo has a brief look at the trackpublished at 12:50 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

Signs of life. Very small signs of life. After Fernando Alonso went out for one lap in his McLaren, Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, the fastest man on the first day of testing on Monday, went out to look at the track.

He clearly didn't like what he saw as he also came straight back in after one lap.

  5. Alonso out, then straight back inpublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

We have an update, ladies and gentlemen. Amazing scenes.

This is Fernando Alonso, the brave Fernando Alonso, going out on the track. OK, he was on full wets but he went out.

    But, don't get too excited.

He went out for one lap and then retreated straight back into the garage. But did post a great message on Twitter about him being "P1 in the snow."

And with snow hope of any action any time soon over in Barcelona we are going to freeze this live page.

If things improve in Spain we will be back with you so hopefully we will see you later on today. If not, our live page for day four (which I guess would become day three) is set to get going on Thursday at 07:30 GMT.

    Bye for now.

  7. Testing in Barcelona delayed by snowpublished at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Andrew Benson
    BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer

The third day of pre-season testing was delayed because of snow at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.

The track was cleared in the morning but the session was postponed because the medical helicopter could not fly in the poor conditions.

Teams would have been unable to run anyway because of the continuing snowfall and freezing temperatures.

Temperatures are likely to rise but it is unclear if the session will start.

The weather is expected to improve for the final day of this week's first test on Thursday, with highs of 15C predicted on a cloudy day with intermittent showers.

The second and final pre-season test runs from 6-9 March. The opening race is the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne's Albert Park on 23-25 March.

  8. Until 17:00 GMT to see any racingpublished at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

Just a quick reminder. We have until 17:00 GMT (18:00 in Spain) for us to get any action today.

We are hoping to see world champion Lewis Hamilton today, and he has only had half of a day on the track so far.

Anyone on the track today would be great.

When Formula 1 raced in extreme conditions

Rob Kershaw: Canada 2011, horrendous rain causing the longest and craziest race I've ever seen. Button went through the pits about six times, crashed with Hamilton and Alonso, was last of the runners, and came back to win it passing Vettel on the last lap. Couldn't make it up.

Ib‏: Not the first time snow caused issues for F1. I recall a Silverstone pre-season test.

Bad news. Some live pictures from Barcelona. And it is still snowing.

Remember, nothing can happen until the medical helicopter can fly over the track.

Will we get any action today? We just have to wait and hope.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing a tweet saying that it had stopped snowing and we're ready to go.

When Formula 1 raced in extreme conditions

Our first talking point today is when Formula 1 raced in extreme conditions. Here are some of your early comments, but keep them coming in to us via the hashtag #bbcf1 on Twitter.

Benjamin Collins: Think back to Korea 2010 and being under the safety car in the pouring rain for the first 17 laps ... never in a million years did I think that race was going to go the distance.

Graham Megennis: My first GP was Spa in 89. A race that probably wouldn't have started in the current era. Mansell all over Prost but had to settle for 3rd. Bought a Ferrari umbrella and stood at Eau Rouge. Ended up completely drenched.

  20. Red flag at the momentpublished at 08:05 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

So the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya says that there is a red flag "until the helicopter is able to fly".

However, more encouragingly the gates are open and the fans are able to enter the stands so maybe they are expecting conditions to improve soon.
