We are getting going now. Sirotkin, Ericsson and Leclerc have all set times. None have gone faster than Nico Hulkenberg's early effort. Only four drivers have tried their luck.

I've gone early, but this is going to be my favourite picture this weekend.

James Baron: Happy for it to stay at 20 tracks but as fans we deserve tracks that will yield exciting action on track instead of all the modernised tracks with massive run off areas and lack of passing opportunities trying to create their own Monaco.

Phil Edwards‏: Keep/bring back>Australia, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany (both Hockenheim and the 22 mile Nurburgring circuit), Canada, US (Austin), Turkey, Silverstone, Spa, Suzuka, Mexico, Estoril, Imola (rather than Monza), Brazil as spare. Drivers/cars need to be challenged

Dan Young‏: Bring back Istanbul and let’s go racing at Long Beach again!

Tim Begley: No qualifying, grid position rotated through the season. Three shorter races over a race weekend. One on Saturday, two on Sunday.

Josh Swain: 22 with more in Europe closer for the teams. Reduce aero dependency especially ground effect by getting the cars higher.

    Your dream Formula 1 season

James Doe: I would have a 17-race season. Races to go: Bahrain, Hungary, Abu Dhabi all for being terrible circuits. And, unless the car widths change, Monaco would have to go I’m afraid. The supposed blue riband race of F1 can’t be as boring a procession as the last two years.

Laurent Cossa: 16 races, a couple of double headers where it makes sense travel-wise for the teams. Also MORE TESTING, but limited mileage based on constructors points. Less points = more km available to help teams develop & catch up.

Will Pearse: I think the calendar could have a maximum of 23-25 races, but only if the calendar is set out to make it logistically possible. i.e. have the European races together, the American races together and the Asian races together.

  14. A major change at Ferrari?published at 11:32 British Summer Time 21 July 2018

    Andrew Benson
    BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer

There is potentially a major change looming at Ferrari. President and chief executive officer Sergio Marchionne is ill and a board meeting is taking place today to discuss replacing him. It is expected that his position as president will be taken by John Elkann, who controls the parent Fiat Group, and chief executive officer will be Louis Carey Camilleri, a former boss of tobacco maker Philip Morris, the team’s main sponsor.

This could have huge ramifications on and off the track. Off it, it is not clear what might change, but Marchionne has been central to discussions about the shape of F1 post-2020. On it, it was Marchionne who was determined to promote Charles Leclerc, who last month agreed a deal to move to Ferrari next year.

But with Marchionne out of the frame, the situation could shift, and it certainly raises the chances of Kimi Raikkonen staying on - as Sebastian Vettel made it clear on Thursday he would prefer.

Mercedes have reiterated when asked by someone else that Lewis Hamilton is definitely not ill - the plan is for him to go out if weather permits.

Hamilton, I saw him this morning, I said hello to him – he was not happy, jokey, fun Lewis Hamiton, he was very serious.

And we’ve all noticed, he looked a bit stiff as he was walking up the stairs, but Mercedes say he’s not ill.

What do we do? We have to take Mercedes’ word for it.
