  3. Incredible work behind the scenespublished at 01:54 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer at Suzuka

There are some lovely stories coming out about how F1 coped with the typhoon on Saturday. Some Ferrari people had tried to set up their espresso machine - very important to the Italians - in their hotel dining room but found that it didn’t work, because the hotel had 110V electrics and the machine needed a European 230V.

So, in the height of the storm, with rain pelting down, they wheeled it down the road to a nearby Italian restaurant and plugged it in there - and took over the restaurant for the rest of the day. At Williams, the catering team supplied lunch bags with pots of instant noodles to the entire team.

Most remarkable, though, is the story of the F1 broadcast centre. This is housed in a framed tent, which was set up on a hill above the paddock. But the structure was not strong enough to withstand the predicted winds, so the whole thing was dismantled and all the technical aspects of it - cables, screens, edit desks and so on - re-erected in six hours in four empty garages at the top of the pit lane. A remarkable example of the sort of unseen ingenuity that makes F1 turn every day of the week.

  5. Strikeeeeeepublished at 01:51 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

Lando Norris then got a bit bored and decided to pop down to the local bowling alley.

He cleared hasn't played this game before. But a strike, well, sort of.

I don't suggest this approach down your local alley.

  7. Model making...published at 01:45 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

Yes, you did read that last bit correctly. Romain Grosjean spent his Saturday building a model Tyrrell six-wheeler, like the one used in the 1976 and 1977 season.

Something a bit lonely about the idea of Grosjean sitting in his hotel room building a model car, while loads of others are sitting playing Fifa in Max Verstappen's room.

    But Romain kept his word...
