Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer, speaking to Sky Sports: "What a great drive today from Sergio [Perez]. From last to first. What a great drive!

"He absolutely deserves to be in Formula 1. He's done a great job all season and will hopefully gain fourth in the drivers' championship. He definitely deserves a place on the grid.

"It's only my second win in Formula 1 - it's absolutely massive. More importantly, it's about the team. It's a big team effort who put this car together and make sure we've got a reliable car.

"Absolutely incredible in the garage tonight, there are tears! It was great."

  2. A tough watchpublished at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2020

Hard not to feel sorry for George Russell today. This was maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity. And it fell away through absolutely no fault of his own.

However, in a few days, when the disappointment has died down, he can be hugely proud of his efforts this weekend.

  3. 'So happy for Sergio'published at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2020

Third-placed Lance Stroll: "Amazing race for the team. Part of me is a little disappointed. I thought I could win the race. I didn't really have the pace to overtake Esteban. Unbelievable result first and third. It is what we needed for the championship.

"I'm so happy for Sergio. He has a couple of races left with the team. He has been up there for such a long time waiting for the win and it came this weekend."

  4. 'I cried on the line'published at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2020

Renault’s Esteban Ocon, who finished second: "I have no words! I cried on the line. There was so much emotion going through my mind.

"It’s been a tough season on our side, it hasn’t paid off all the time but we never stopped pushing. We kept working hard, kept motivated, so that was very important.

"When less and less people are believing in you, it is important to believe in yourself and today we made it happen. I’m very pleased. It was hard work but it paid off.

On his progression and team-mate Daniel Ricciardo: "Daniel is a fantastic benchmark, he has had a very solid season in his second season at Renault. Overall, I feel my progression has been strong as well.

"I’m closing the gap to him and to have the podium is the cherry on the cake."

  5. 'George had a fantastic race'published at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2020

More from race-winner Sergio Perez: "This season the luck hasn't been with us. I think we won it on merit. In end pace was strong enough to hold George who had a fantastic race today."

  6. 'I hope I am not dreaming'published at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2020

Race winner Sergio Perez: "I am speechless. I hope I am not dreaming because I dream for so many years being in this moment. 10 years it took me. I don't know what to say. After the first lap race it was gone. It was all about not giving up.

"In the second run I said to the team the car feels like a limousine. It feels so easy. We had tremendous pace and I think we did pretty well throughout the weekend."

On his future: "It [the win] gives me a bit more peace with myself. What happens is not so much in my hands. I want to keep going. If I am not on the grid next year I will be back in 2022."

  11. Three points for Russellpublished at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2020

George Russell gets three points - the first of his career - two for coming ninth and one for the fastest lap. But he should’ve had so so many more.

A horror pit stop, where he ended up with the wrong tyres on the car and then instantly had to pit again the next lap to get rid of them, followed by a late puncture and that ruined what could’ve and should’ve been the first win of his career.

Perez wins, Ocon second and Stroll third

Gaz Beard: Gutted for George Russell, but so happy for Sergio Perez. It’s absolutely criminal that he hasn’t got a seat so far for next season.

John Allsup: Russell didn't win, or even make a podium, but has arguably shown his potential, with his position being due to his team making a rare mess of things.

The Sporting Angle: Genuinely delighted for Perez and Racing Point but so gutted for George.

James Beswick: New circuits create drama. Bin Monaco, bin Spa, bin Silverstone. I want a GP in Tajikistan.

Rachel T: So, so pleased for Sergio Perez - it is an utter disgrace that he hasn’t got a seat in F1 next year. What a race!

Ferdinho: This is all on Toto for stacking both drivers in the pits. Complete failure in risk management.

Leah Hunter: I know it sounds strange but it would be FAIR... If Russel starts next week in Mercedes... I wish Hamilton quick recovery but... Russel really deserves it...

WeaklingChild: It’s a bitter pill to swallow seeing Russell finish poorly through no fault of his own - but Perez winning this will definitely take the edge off.
