Bottas has been in and out of the pits and it's a 2.2 second stop. Mercedes will have been wondering why they couldn't have been that good for Hamilton.

"[Verstappen] is getting super lucky with traffic, man."

Valtteri Bottas was an absolute sitting duck.

  5. Postpublished at Lap 32/72

Remember, there is still only 1.6 seconds between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at the lap-32 mark. It's not one to write in the record books, just yet.

Any mistake from Verstappen will see Hamilton swarming all over him.

  6. Team radio - Red Bull to Verstappenpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

    "That's mega. Let's go!"

I don't think Valtteri Bottas has the tyres to defend against Max Verstappen.

This is the crucial part. This is going to be it...

  8. Postpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

The tyres just were not there for Bottas and Verstappen, with ease, storms ahead of Bottas, who then pulls out of the way to let Hamilton ahead too.

It's more a tactical battle then superb wheel-to-wheel stuff, but the story of this race is still to be written.

Verstappen attacking Bottas, Mercedes hoping the Finn can go into defensive mode.

This is going to get funky. Really, really, funky!

There is not much to separate Bottas, Verstappen and Hamilton.

Max Verstappen's race engineer is scribbling stuff down on a notepad - that's not very Formula 1 these days!

  12. Postpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

There's still only 2.3 seconds between Verstappen and Hamilton, so Mercedes will be hoping Bottas can do some superb defending to frustrate Verstappen, much like we saw from Fernando Alonso to hold up Hamilton in Hungary a couple of races ago.

Medium tyres, they reckon you can get about 35 laps from.

Thomas Knight: Tsunoda having a horrible horrible race, well on track to be lapped by his team mate.

Darren: Not to put the mockers on but Max is putting on a masterclass today. Poor Bono and James [Vowles, chief strategist] are about to have a rough couple of hours

Nulla Pax: Are Red Bull starting to feel like they are in charge yet? Just a little?

  18. Postpublished at Lap 26/72

Bottas was 10 seconds ahead of Verstappen when the Dutchman came back out after his stop, but that has already been sliced down to four seconds.

Can Bottas hold up Verstappen and bring in Hamilton closer? Bottas yet to stop, Verstappen and Hamilton have stopped once.

Christian Horner to Sky Sportspublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

"It's a tight entry into the pit box - the most important thing was to keep track position from Lewis.

"All compounds behave differently so it's a manner of bringing the tyre in nice and easy and going the long way.

"The two stop looks a quicker choice, so if they're keeping Bottas out in front that's obviously a tactical decision."

Valtteri Bottas is presumably going to go for a one-stop to interact with the leaders at this stage.
