With Ferrari's Charles Leclerc starting at the back of the grid after further engine changes and Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez fluffing his lines in Q2, Max Verstappen had minimal competition in the fight for pole position as the track began to dry up on Saturday.

The Dutchman, who leads Perez in the drivers' championship by 21 points, landed his 15th career pole with a time of 1:21.299 - 0.645 seconds clear of the field.

As the godfather of the grid, Fernando Alonso has been there, done that, bought and sold a load of T-shirts and then jumped back in the kitchen to experience the heat all over again.

Now at the age of 40, the two-time world champion is showing he can still cut it with the young bucks as he lines up next to 24-year-old world champion Max Verstappen on the front row.

Can Fernando take his first Formula 1 victory since the German Grand Prix in 2012?

He has to wrangle in the Red Bull first though...
