  13. 'That's totally unacceptable' - Hornerpublished at 08:14 British Summer Time 9 October 2022

Red Bull boss Christian Horner talking about the recovery vehicle incident: "It's totally unacceptable. We lost Jules Bianchi here five, six years ago and that should never ever happen. There needs to be a full investigation as to why there was recovery vehicle on the track. Checo reported it to us. Extremely dangerous.

"The VSC was brought in for a reason. There just needs to be a full investigation as to why that vehicle was on the track.

"Without all the facts it's very hard to comment on why the vehicle was on the track, what the process is to enable the vehicle to go on the track.

"Visibility is just horrendous, even Max at the front was struggling to see so how anyone behind could see anything at all, it's a difficult one."

  17. 'We need a rain body spec solution so we can get these kinds of races going'published at 08:05 British Summer Time 9 October 2022

    Sam Bird
Formula E driver on BBC Radio 5 Live

I have had a red flag for fog and rain, I have even had a red flag for snow at Silverstone, which was interesting.

I think this race would restart much sooner if it was a sports car race, rather than Formula 1.

Looking forward, to make sure this does not happen again, is there a way the teams can come up with a rain body spec solution so there is less spray coming off those rear tyres so we can get these kinds of races going?

That's what we need to look into.

Positive mental attitude is needed now. Will those passionate fans see anything remotely resembling racing today? The skies look... grey, to be honest. But it's not chucking it down, so that's something?!

  20. red flag

Japanese Grand Prix still delayedpublished at 07:57 British Summer Time 9 October 2022

    Lap 3/53

If you're just joining us this morning, welcome. It's been a chaotic start to this Japanese Grand Prix and the 53-lap race is still under red flag conditions.

Movement out on track now as the safety car goes for a mooch around to check on conditions. The rain seems to have eased off but there are puddles lurking at every corner.

Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel are having a chat in the Aston Martin garage. What running do those two think we will get - of any.
