It's not surprising is it. Fernando Alonso has had one of those years. He has shown amazing pace in that Alpine. He has really dominated Esteban Ocon on pace, but Ocon will end up finishing in front of him in the championship purely based on the fact that Alonso has had so many retirements and DNFs through no fault of his own.
Lap 31/58
Valtteri Bottas is celebrating 200 race starts today but the Alfa Romeo man gets a touch of stage fright when Sebastian Vettel comes knocking on his door to overtake. Bottas suffers a lock-up, which allows Vettel to slip by and seal 15th place.

Maybe Sebastian Vettel [after slamming on the brakes at the end of the pitlane] had forgotten the pit limiter? Oh Sebastian - not in your final race.
Maybe it wasn't? I don't know, that was really strange. I am expecting a banner to come up, though, saying speeding in the pitlane.
Engineer: We have to retire the car.
Lap 28/58
Fernando Alonso is heading into the pits. Another stop for the Spaniard? Nope, he's retiring the car. A disappointing end to the two-time world champion's Alpine career.
Lap 27/58
Now that Sebastian Vettel has dropped out of the top 10, Fernando Alonso is back in the fold, along with Vettel's Aston Martin team-mate Lance Stroll. Max Verstappen is leading this season-ending race, two seconds ahead of the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez.
